Phantasm III at Poppenhusen Institute – three new one-act plays. The Phoenix Players will celebrate the start of their 16th season by presenting three original plays written by resident members of the company. The playwrights were commissioned early in the year to create plays: One would be based in the past, one the present, and one the future. Additionally, each piece had to be based on a real-life event. To that end, “The Barbecue” written by Michael Schwartz takes place in the second half of the 19th century. “Broken Symmetry” written by Robert Combe is a comedic look at the relationships between men and women in today's world. “The Day After the End of the World” by Frank Priore is a tribute to his love with the theater. Director is Robert Combe and the Board of Directors: Robert Camara, John Kimick, Andrew Salgado, Anna Wolf. Six performances are scheduled at the Poppenhusen Institute, 114-04 14th Road, College Point. Opening night is Friday, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m., with performances continuing Nov. 18, 24 and 25. After debuting at the Institute, the plays will move off-Broadway to the Producer's Club in January. General admission is $10, senior citizens and students are $7. For more information or to reserve tickets call 381-534.
