Cardozo girls can’t hold lead in loss to Curtis

Unfortunately for Larry Carradine's club, the lead would not last, as the Warriors roared back to outscore Cardozo 17-10 in the third quarter and 23-15 in the fourth quarter en route to a 54-47 win over the Judges.

Talia Sutton garnered MVP honors for Curtis (8-3), scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Marcy DeSio and Kristen Rodriguez scored 12 points apiece for the Warriors, while Acasha Gordon chipped in with 11 points.

Shavonne Roundtree had 15 points and January Johnson added 13 points and eight rebounds for Cardozo (8-2), which scored just one field goal in the final two minutes of the game.

Springfield Gardens 59, Campus Magnet 50. Shawntiasha Smith scored a game-high 32 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter to lead the Golden Eagles to a come-from-behind victory.

Trailing 41-32 after three quarters, Smith and Patrice Hicks (18 points) led the charge, as Springfield Gardens (7-6, 3-3 Queens B-I) outscored the Bulldogs 27-9 en route to the win.

Delores Maeweather led Campus Magnet (3-3 Queens B-I) with 21 points.

Francis Lewis 54, Townsend Harris 24. Alanna Adams had 12 points and 12 boards and Maria Miaoulis added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Lewis (9-0, 6-0 Queens A).

John Adams 46, Beach Channel 29. Michelle Tusa led the defending PSAL 'B' champs with 15 points and Jen Porazzo added eight points and 10 steals in the battle for first place in Queens B-I. Amanda Sanders grabbed 14 boards for Adams (10-1, 6-0). Beach Channel falls to 5-1 in the league.

Bayside 36, Edison 26. Ally Falco scored 23 points and Candice Tang added eight for the Commodores (10-3, 6-0 Queens B-III).

Cleveland 48, Renaissance 20. Ina Serri scored 13 points for the Indians (6-3, 5-1 Queens B-II).

Van Buren 46, Flushing 21. Cherisse Soto scored 15 points, Jeneva Kelly had 13 and Shauntae Parker chipped in 12 for the VeeBees (6-6, 5-1 Queens B-III).

Franklin K. Lane 61, Richmond Hill 38. Iris Cartagena had 21 points and seven assists and Marjorie Negron added 10 points and nine boards for Lane (8-6, 3-3 Queens B-I). Maria Velazquez scored 19 points for the Lions.

Bowne 57, Newcomers 44. Angela Fragoso (34 points) and Candice Beckford (eight points) combined to score 42 of the Wildcats 57 points. Bowne improved to 13-1, 5-1 Queens B-II.

RFK 33, Forest Hills 31. Michelle Wallace scored 10 points, including a clutch free throw down the stretch to secure the upset win for RFK (6-7, 2-2 Queens B-II).

Newtown 62, Long Island City 47. Monica Pahl scored 24 points and Lasheena Brown added 10 for Newtown (6-7, 4-2 Queens B-III).

Cardozo 50, Jamaica 34. Roundtree had 17 points for the Judges.

American Studies 61, Robert F. Wagner 25. Ashley Alvarez (15 points) and Tenessa Roizman (14 points) combined to outscore Wagner. American Studies improves to 1-7, 1-5 Queens B-III.
