Police Blotter: Man, boy in new Ford stopped in Bayside, charged with theft

David Rodriguez, 18, and the boy were pulled over and arrested at Cross Island Parkway and Northern Boulevard while driving a 2000 Ford Explorer, said Officer Lee Ann Tracy-Adler a Police Department spokeswoman.

She said the two men were also charged stealing a purse.

52-year-old man injured in Hollis building fire

HOLLIS – A 52-year-old man who lived in the apartment above a store at 198-12 Jamaica Ave. was burned after a fire broke out in the building, police said.

He was taken to New York Hospital Queens and was in stable condition after the Fire Department put the blaze out at about 5 a.m. Monday, said Sgt. James Foley, a Police Department spokesman.

The cause was under investigation.

Gas station worker shot in attempted rob

OZONE PARK – A 55-year-old man was shot in the back during an attempted robbery of a gas station at 100th Street and Rockaway Boulevard, police said.

The victim, a station worker, was shot at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday by two unidentified men who pulled into the gas station driving a white sedan, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a Police Department spokesman. He said nothing was taken and after the shooting, the gunmen fled the scene.

The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital and was listed in stable condition, Cottingham said.

Police were investigating.

Man at Forest Hills station dead on arrival at hospital

FOREST HILLS- A 50-year-old man was discovered unconscious on the platform of the F train subway station at 75th Avenue and Queens Boulevard at midnight Friday, police said.

He was taken to Parkway Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a Police Department spokesman.

Cottingham said there were no signs of foul play and the medical examiner would determine the cause of death.

The man was not identified as of press time.

50-year-old man dead in Freedom Square

KEW GARDENS HILLS – A 50-year-old man was found unconscious and then declared dead in Freedom Square at 75th Road and Main Street Sunday at about 10 a.m., police said.

The man was declared dead by Emergency Medical Services, said Officer Joseph Cavitolo, a Police Department spokesman.

He said there were no signs of foul play and the medical examiner would determine the cause of death.

Police had not released the man's identity as of press time.

Man stabbed in torso in dispute at 98th Place

CORONA – A 17-year-old man was stabbed several times in the torso by an unidentified man after a dispute at 47-37 98th Place, police said.

The altercation took place at about 2:45 p.m. Monday, and the assailant fled the scene, said Det. Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman. She said the victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and was in critical condition.

Police were investigating.

Rosedale store burglarized; cash and cigarettes stolen

ROSEDALE – The Rosedale Candy Store at 145-01 243rd St. was burglarized early Monday morning, police said.

The burglar or burglars broke into the store through a glass panel in the rear, said Officer Lee Ann Tracy-Adler a Police Department spokeswoman. She said $4,400 and 300 cartons of cigarettes were taken.

Police were investigating.

Ozone Park teen charged with attempted rape

OZONE PARK – Ricky Jones, 19, of 124-07 108th Ave. was arrested Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. for the attempted rape of a 14-year-old girl, police said.

Officer Chris Cottingham, a Police Department spokesman, said Jones allegedly tried to rape the girl after he pulled her to the rear of the building where he lived. He said the girl was able to fight free and called the police.

Jones was arrested a few blocks away, Cottingham said. He is charged with attempted rape and attempted abuse, the officer said.

Jamaica man indicted in Harlem sex attacks

JAMAICA – A 24-year old Jamaica man suspected of sexually assaulting a dozen young girls in Manhattan and the Bronix was indicted on charges he molested four girls in Harlem, the New York Daily News reported.

Frederick Miller is charged with exposing himself to one girl, threatening another at knifepoint and sodomizing two others, the News reported.

He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
