Guests will be invited to show off their own skills for critique. The audience will couple up, and the professionals will offer helpful instruction.
For people too shy to take center stage, there will be plenty of entertainment to keep them occupied: Anatoliy and Renata Shvarts, a professional Latin Dance couple, have won several national and international championships, and are the co-founders of the first children's dance studio in the country. They can be seen in the movies “Dance With Me” and “Let It Be Me,” and have passed on their knowledge as choreographers for theater and figure skating routines.
Egor Abashkin and Katy Kanevsky are a Professional Standard couple with an impressive international background. Abashkin came to the United States as the Republic of Moldova's five-time champion, as well as the European and World Champion.
Perhaps the night's most anticipated performance will be delivered by Edward Golbert and Laura Kagan. At 8 years old, they have already won a number of U.S. ballroom dance championships, including the United States National Dance-Sport Championship and the U.S. Open Juvenile title. Edward has performed in film and music videos, and both dancers are determined to leave guests amazed at the professionalism and talent that can be displayed by “a couple of kids.”
Tickets for the Holiday Ball are $45, or $35 for Dance or Music School students and parents. They are on sale at the school at 43-77 162nd St. in Flushing, or can be reserved by calling 718-445-0141 or 718-445- 0215. Tickets will not be sold on the day of the performance.
