To The Point: Warmth of kind deeds

By Sabina Cardali

Next, everyone will be getting ready to usher in the start of the first year of 2001. If you will be doing this at home or at a relative's or friend's house, have a great time. If you will be celebrating at a restaurant, please remember: Designate a driver who will not be drinking alcohol, just having a great time with his personality and enjoying everybody else's.

Pastor Hamilton of St. Paul's Church deserves an Academy Award for the very best live Nativity ever in College Point. So many people's love and hard work went into making this a great production.

The director was Jennifer Tonnesen. Mary was Erika Tonnesen, Joseph was Mathew Bonvento and Jesus was portraying all the love. There were three angels and Gabriel was on the altar. In the church were a donkey, three goats, two sheep, a turkey, a peacock, four rabbits, five ducks, five chickens, and a potbelly pig. Much gratitude to Susan Latham, who traveled through bad weather from upstate to bring many of the animals to College Point to make this a reality.

A few of the animals had to spend the night. I'm sure they got a night snack and a great breakfast. Pastor Hamilton also had the children bring items that would decorate the tree in the park but were edible to the animals.

Senator Frank Padavan , Millie Auletta, Dottie Schreiber, and Joe Cigala helped in lighting the tree.

SABINA SAYS…Spread the holiday spirit. This is a good time to thank someone for a kindness. Send a thank-you note to the parents in your child's carpool.

Take a plate of cookies to the neighbor who rescued your pet when he got lost that rainy night. Invite the children to help in any meaningful way they can. Their enthusiasm and awe always add new dimensions to any project.

Call and tell your child's teacher how much you appreciate her work with your child. Thank your boss for the opportunity to work for him or her.

Reach out and share the burden of someone who lives under a lot of stress, a single parent or an elderly widower, for example.

Spend part of the holidays with someone who is alone. As a family, you might further experience the holiday spirit by adopting a needy family or inviting someone who is alone to join you.

Everyone knows that the best way to receive, is to give.

Spread holiday cheer everywhere you go and you will be many times blessed.
