Van Buren crushes Wingate to win Gobbler title

The VeeBees (6-2) held Wingate (3-5) scoreless through the first 8:46 of the game and led 11-0 after one quarter. Manny Edabar had 12 points and Melvin Jackson added 11 for Van Buren, which has held three opponents to less than 33 points for a third time in eight games.

Sophomore Curtis Buow led the Generals with 10 points.

Jamaica 62, Van Arsdale 48. Nathanial Parker paced the Beavers with 33 points, garnering MVP honors, and Darryl Elam added 16 for Jamaica (6-2), which led 25-4 after one quarter and held on in the Adidas Gobbler/Snowflake Classic at FIT.

Devon Williams had 17 points and Trey Weaver added 11 to help Van Arsdale get back in the game.

Edison 56, John Jay 50. Reyaad Mohamed earned MVP honors with 21 points and six rebounds and Lawrence Carson had 14 points and 17 boards for the Inventors (4-6). Shawn Welcome had 16 points for John Jay in the Adidas Gobbler/Snowflake Classic at FIT.

St. Joseph by the Sea 49, Newtown 48. The Pioneers blew a nine-point lead heading into the fourth quarter to lose by one in the Kingsmen Shootout at Nazareth High School in Brooklyn Saturday.

Newtown (3-2) scored just two points in the fourth quarter and was 0-for-5 from the line down the stretch. Junior guard Tristan Verette had 13 points for Pat Torney's team. Seniors Jamel Moye and Johnny Carter added 13 points apiece for the Pioneers, which had a 46-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Larry Ciaffone had 11 points for St. Joseph by the Sea (2-4), including six points in the fourth quarter.

Campus Magnet 60, Hillcrest 53. Devon Ray led the Bulldogs with 19 points. Elvis Belone had 15 and Mark Arrington added 13 for Campus Magnet (6-1).

Aviation 74, Wagner 48. Pete Caris had 17 points and Nelson Cueto added 11 for the Flyers (8-2, 3-0 Queens B-I).

Queens Vocational 67, Richmond Hill 64 (OT). Louis DeMaria had 20 points and 12 boards and Justin Lacy had two three-pointers in overtime to lead Queens Vocational (7-3).

Bryant 80, Springfield Gardens 56. Dwayne Walker had 22 points and Diego Aguilar added 19 points and 18 boards for the Owls, who improve to 10-1, 3-0 in Queens A-I.

August Martin 56, Bayside 50. Jonathan Garrett had 12 points and 11 assists and Ike Iwu added 15 points and nine rebounds for Martin (4-4, 2-2 Queens A-II). Lance Hazel had a game-high 20 points for Bayside.

Hillcrest 64, Forest Hills 32. Mike Thompson had 17 points and Antoine Williams added 13 for the Hawks (5-3, 2-1 Queens A-I).

Jamaica 62, Edison 57. Parker had a game-high 38 points and 15 rebounds, while Darryl Ilam added 19 points for the Beavers.

Cardozo 71, Franklin K. Lane 37. Darryl Hill had 20 points and Dana Townsend added 16 for the Judges, which rebounded from an 83-70 loss to Campus Magnet last Wednesday, which snapped Cardozo's 47-game division win streak.

Richmond Hill 52, Robert F. Kennedy 34. Tyrone Fosmire had 25 points and Ricardo Chauca had 12 to lead Richmond Hill (3-3, 2-0 Queens B-I).

John Adams 91, Renaissance School 62. Donte King and Taylor Murphy each scored 17 points each and Adrian Smith added 13 to lead the Spartans (5-2, 2-1 Queens B-I). Gerald Shaw had 22 points and nine assists for Renaissance (0-3, 0-3 Queens B-I).

Newtown 84, Cleveland 47. Carter had 25 points and 11 boards and Verette added 16 points for Newtown.

Campus Magnet 83, Far Rockaway 47. Ray scored 22 points and Arrington added 16 for Chuck Granby's squad.
