Joseph F. Crowley, Sr., Esq., Father Of Congressman

sacks at the local A&P. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era, he followed his father into the New York City Police Dept., advancing to the rank of detective, and had the distinction of driving the first unmarked police car in the city. While on "the force" he took seriously the injunction, "work, study, get ahead." Crowley enrolled at St. Johns College and St. Johns Law School and was admitted to the New York State Bar in March of 1965. He was then assigned to the Departments Legal Bureau. In 1977, Crowley retired from the Police Dept. after 21 years, entering private practice with his brother, Walter. Crowley was the senior partner in the law firm of Crowley & Crowley, in Elmhurst. He was a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Queens County Bar Association, and the Catholic Lawyers Guild. He was admitted to practice before the New York State and Federal bars. He was an inspiration to many young and aspiring lawyers and judges. He passed away suddenly doing what he loved, practicing law.
Crowley was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Hudson Council, a member of Division 18 and past president of the Queens County Board of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and a member and counsel to the County Cavan P&B Association.
Joseph Crowley, Sr. is survived by his wife of 41 years, Eileen, and his four children: Maura Martinez, Congressman Joseph Crowley, Eileen Clinton, and Sean Crowley, his son and partner. Crowley was also the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren. He will be missed by all he touched.
The Queens Courier wishes to extend our deepest sympathy to the entire Crowley family on their loss.
