Welcome to the Point. The Point being College Point.
If you heard all the barking, all those beautiful well-groomed dogs were heading for Madison Square Garden and the 125th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
The show featured 2,500 dogs, so beautifully groomed and wonderfully behaved and getting along with each other. All 2,500 entrants earned championship status at other contests, and the five top-rated dogs in all 158 American Kennel Club-recognized breeds were invited to the show. It was so very difficult to pick just a few winners from this large group. The scene-stealer from Mossland Kennels, Sage, the Norwich Terrier, did his acting and was waiting for his ribbon.
Cmdr. John Barry Assembly held a Testimonial Dinner for Michael O’Connor, P.F.N. at the Joyce Kilmer Council. Family and friends filled the hall to do him honor. His family was so friendly. His wife, Marian, daughters Debbie and Rosemary, sons Bill and Michael, cousins Laura and Joseph Vespi, Roseanne and Jim Napolitano, grandchildren Amanda Rose (who was dancing up a storm), Jennifer Lynn, and Nicholas Joseph, added to the joy of the evening. I was honored to be told that they always read my column.
