Welcome to the Point. The Point being College Point.

We hope that all the families were blessed with the joys of Passover and the Easter holidays.

I was overjoyed to be asked by the Recreation Department of Hillside Nursing Home to add to the holiday festivity. I again was an Easter bunny. I did this first when I was 6 years old. Of course, since that was some time ago, I am a full-fledged bunny now. Also entertaining at the nursing home was Lil Moss of Mossland Kennels with her star performer, Norwich terrier Sage. Sage accepted me as a bunny and the show went on. Laraine Memola from the Recreation Department should be commended for the wonderful programs that are performed at the Hillside Nursing Home.

Mabel McAuliffe was honored for her 85th birthday. A surprise celebration was held at the First Reformed Church. Mabel is dedicated in her church work, as well as singing in the choir. Pastor Rosenblum presented Mabel with a plaque that read, “For her life -long service for her church family.” The newsletter was given by LaVonne and Leo Harris in honor of Mabel McAuliffe. A speedy recovery is wished to Mabel on her accident.

On April 29, all the children with their parents and guardians are invited to First Reformed Church for Mommy and Me and Playgroup Recognition Day. The children will sing and then go to the chapel for free play and snack. We are looking for volunteers to watch the children during the rest of the service, so some of the parents can enjoy the remainder of the hour and hear the sermon. See Kathy Catterson or call the church office at 359-3956, if you would like to volunteer.

Mommy and Me Playgroup holds a Plant Sale and Bake Sale May 6. The money raised will be used for new equipment and toys. They would like to offer a scholarship to children and parents who would like to attend Playgroup or Mommy and Me but have financial difficulty. If you would like to sponsor a child, the cost per month is $25 for Mommy and Me and the cost for Playgroup is $45 per month. The money helps pay for supplies, crafts, trips and Graduation. If you are interested, please contact Kathy Catterson at 849-1824 or Pastor Rosenblum. Your support is appreciated.

The Community Dinner will be held at First Reformed Church at noon Saturday, April 28. Rummage Sale on May 3 and May 4.

The Ret-Set is on Wednesday, April 25 at 12:15 p.m.

Jessica Foley participates in the Strut Your Stuff dance team. They went to East Islip on March 3 and 4 to compete at the American Dance Awards. Jessica competed in the 9-year-old division and did a tap routine. She received a gold medal and took first place. Congratulations Jessica!

At the Whitestone Bowling Alley, if the walls seem shattered, Maureen Napolitan bowled 210, Julie Streich bowled 220, Debbie Renart bowled 200, and Patti McCarthy bowled 206.

St. Fidelis will hold their Rummage Sale on Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 29 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the school auditorium

SABINA SAYS: Let’s start getting ready for Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13. It’s always wonderful to see all the children getting their piggy bank out and buying their mother a little flower to show their love.
