Corona Park Pork Store 8, Beat The Clock 5. Corona Park Pork Store defeated Beat the Clock by a score of 8-5 to raise its record to 4-2-1. Corona Park came out on fire, controlling the play for most of the first period and jumping ahead 2-0. The game then became a tight struggle, deadlocked at 2-2, then 3-3, then 4-4, before Corona Park was able to capitalize on four third-period goals to put the game away. Both goaltenders, Steven Mare (Corona Park) and Sebastian Bodnar (Beat The Clock) displayed excellent skills in fending off a barrage of shots. Corona Park’s offense was powered by Anthony Yacovone, who got his second hat trick in the last two games and Johnny Pagano, who had a five-point game (one goal, four assists). Timely goals were contributed by Danny Cochran (2), Keith Lippert (1) and Willie Yumet (1). Corona Park once again displayed their willingness to work with each other, setting up some pretty goals with superb passing and demonstrating unselfish play throughout the game.
Gary Mann Productions 6, Beat The Clock Printing 4. Gary Mann came out rocking to the tune of a 3-0 lead at the end of first period on goals by Joe May (2) and Ed Johnston, assisted by Elias Natsiolaris. Gary Mann continued climbing the charts to build a 5-0 lead at the end of second period on goals by Ed Johnston and Robert Schule, assisted by Joe May and Bryon Valinotti. Beat the Clock got the presses rolling in the third period on scores by Mike Weber, Kevin Kelley, Frank Castelli and Sam Sieger, assisted by Brian Kelley and Zack Sieger to offset Robert Schule’s goal, assisted by Bryon Valinotti, ending a hard-fought contest that saw excellent goaltending by both Steven Natsiolaris and Sebastian Bodner.
Point Furniture 13, Gary Mann Productions 6. Point Furniture jumped on top with a 10-3 lead at the end of second period on goals by Sal Pinto (5), Paul Cooley (3), Anthony Binanti and T.J. Moran, assisted by the younger Anthony Binanti to, offset Gary Mann’s scores by Mike McCann (2) and Ed Johnston, assisted by Joe May. Goaltenders Vinnie Diasparra and Steven Natsiolaris kept things close in the third period with strong play by Matt Brady, Paul Masi, Sara Cooley and Nicky Palazzolo, as both teams scored three.
Corona Park Pork Store 9, Gary Mann Productions 5. Corona Park came out simmering and pasted Gary Mann for a 4-2 lead at the end of the first period on scores by Alex Doulevaris, Willie Yumet and Anthony Yacavone, assisted by Keith Lippert, for Corona Park to offset goals by Gary Mann’s Robert Schule and Kevin Conklin, assisted by Mike Conklin and Ed Johnston. Both teams scored two goals in the second period on goals by Gary Mann’s Ed Johnston (2), assisted by Bryon Valinotti, and Corona Park’s Mike Yacavone and Willie Yumet. On the excellent play of Paul Giacomino and Pat Brennan, with goals by Danny Cochran, Glendemin and Keith Lippert, Corona Park smoked Gary Mann to offset a Mike McCann score for the win.
Minor Division
ReMax Universal 4, Erin’s Isle 4. ReMax and Erin’s Isle skated to a 4-4 tie. For ReMax, Austin Lopez led the way with, two and a great game on both defense and offense. Kevin Hugnh scored the game-tying goal late in the game. Vasilis Malo and his brother Matthew Malo had terrific defensive games and Melanie Binanti had some great chances on offense. Evan Kundrat scored a hat trick and Connor Browne provided Erin’s offense with a goal and an assist.
Erin’s Isle vs. ReMax Universal. For the second straight night, Erin’s Isle and ReMax Universal skated to a tie. ReMax’s Coach Dominck Favalora feels that the way the team is playing their first win is just around the corner. He is very satisfied with he play of everyone the last two games. Goalie Steve McGrory made some wonderful saves. Team captain Jeffery Johnston scored two goals. Eric Tully played a great game to go along with his first goal of the season. Alexander Malo has demonstrated excellent hustle. David Legaz strong two-way game.
Jesse Halpern Skate & Tennis Shop 7, Mass Electric 7. Down 3 – 0 early, Jesse Halpern came storming back to take the lead 4-3. From there on it was it was back and forth, never more than a goal lead until Jesse Halpern pulled their goalie and Spiros Markopolous backhanded one into the net with .25 seconds left to secure the tie. For Jesse Halpern, Evan Katz bulged the twine three times, Andrew Doheny scored a goal, Travis Lippert scored a goal and added two assists and Nick Natsiolaris and Jason Becker showed some tremendous fore-checking.
Jesse Halpern Skate & Tennis Shop 7, McCann's Rollers 5. Jesse Halpern and McCann’s Rollers played a tight game with Jesse Halpern coming out on top 7-5. For Jesse Halpern, Andrew Doheny led the way scoring a goal and adding two beautiful assists. Alex Palazzolo had an assist and played strong in the defensive end. Dimitrios Savva and Nick Veljacich were terrific in bottling up the Rollers attack and Albert Markopolous was standing tall in the net stopping breakaway after breakaway. For the Rollers, Sean McCann found the back of the net four times and Jimmy McCann added a goal. Despite the loss, Chris McCrorie had a strong game protecting the net for the Rollers.
Senior Division
Sambucci Brothers 9, Pizza Chef 7 . Trailing 8-4 after two periods, Pizza Chef's comeback fell short. Jonathan Kupferschmidt and Joe Monte combined for five goals and Anthony Juliano, Anthony DiFalco and Matt Valinoti had strong two way games in a great effort.
Statewide Merchandising 5, Pizza Chef 3. Leading Statewide’s offense was Matt Lupoli and Joe Kaso with two goals. Mike Bova also contributed a goal. For Pizza Chef, Jonathan Kupferschmidt, Steve Whelan and Joe Monte scored goals.
Transcreen 6, Statewide Merchandising 4. In a terrific hard-fought game Statewide took a 2-0 lead only to see Transcreen score four unanswered goals in the first period. Leading the charge for Transcreen were Kenny McCrorie (2), Tommy Werthmuller (1), Sean Doheny (1), Matt Novak (1) and Cory McGrath (1). For Statewide, Matt Lupoli scored three goals and Matt Twomey contributed a goal.
Sambucci Brothers 4, Transcreen 2. Sambucci took an early 1-0 lead in the first period. In the second period Transcreen took a 2-1 lead with two power play goals. Sambucci scored the tying and go-ahead goals late in the third period and added an open-net power play goal with a minute left in the game. Goalies Mike Giacomino (Sambucci) and Chris Rodriguez (Transcreen) put on a marvelous display on how to protect the net and keep the games close.
