FLUSHING — A man was seriously injured Saturday morning when he was attacked by two teens and then hit by a car as he tried to escape on Farrington Street and Northern Boulevard, police said.
The victim, who was walking in downtown Flushing with his girlfriend at the time of the attack, made it to the nearby 109th Precinct station house at 37-05 Union St. at 2:30 a.m., said Detective Michael Heffernan.
The man was transported to New York Hospital in serious but stable condition, said Detective Edward Reuss, a police spokesman.
Police arrested Winson Lau, 18, of 42-42 Colden St. and Johnny Ku, 19, of 143-07 Sanford Ave., both in Flushing. Charges against the suspects were pending, Reuss said.
Woman cabby robbed of cash in Auburndale
AUBURNDALE — A 60-year-old woman cab driver was robbed of $400 Monday night and a 31-year-old South Ozone Park man was soon arrested and charged with the crime, police said.
Renald Hawk of 150-47 114th St. in South Ozone Park was charged with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon for allegedly threatening the driver with a 12-inch screw to rob her, said Detective Madelyne Galindo, a police spokeswoman.
Hawk hailed the cab at 213th Street and Northern Boulevard in Bayside at about 11:30 p.m., Galindo said. When the cab reached 197th Street and 47th Avenue in Auburndale, Hawk allegedly put the screw to the neck of the driver and robbed her, the detective said.
He was arrested at 46-07 197th St., Galindo said.
18-year-old man shot in left leg in Flushing
FLUSHING — An 18-year-old man was shot three times in the left leg while walking shortly after midnight Friday outside 34-20 137th St. in Flushing, police said.
The victim was taken to New York Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a police spokesman.
Police arrested Peter Abel, 21, of 34-41 Linden Place in College Point Tuesday and charged him with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, said Detective Madelyne Galindo, a police spokesman.
Man shot five times on 106th Avenue
JAMAICA — A 25-year-old man was seriously injured when he was shot five times Sunday at 177-47 106th Ave., police said.
Shamar Davis was shot in the chest at about 5:10 p.m., said Detective Madelyne Galindo, a police spokeswoman.
Davis was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in critical condition. By Monday he was in stable but guarded condition in the intensive care unit, said Juliet Lewis, a hospital spokeswoman.
No arrests were made at the time of the shooting, Galindo said. Police were investigating.
Man with heroin vials inside him dies at Jamaica Hospital
JAMAICA — A 46-year-old man complaining of stomach pains turned out to have 57 vials of heroin in his digestive tract, and died at Jamaica Hospital Tuesday, police said.
Orlando Padran of 87-33 76th St. in Woodhaven came to the hospital complaining of the pain, said Detective Madelyne Galindo, a police spokeswoman. Doctors removed the vials.
He died at 4 a.m.
Six firefighters hurt in S. Jamaica roof fire
SOUTH JAMAICA — Six firefighters were injured while battling a blaze at 118-16 153rd St. in South Jamaica Friday, the Fire Department said.
The fire started on the flat roof of the six-story building at about 9 a.m. and spread, said Jerard Allas, a spokesman for the Fire Department.
The firefighters were taken to North Shore Hospital, where they were in stable condition, Allas said.
Man shot in leg on 198th Street
JAMAICA — A 22-year-old man was shot in the hip Tuesday night, police said.
The victim was shot at 114-45 198th St. in Jamaica, said Carmen Melendez, a police spokeswoman. He was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition.
No arrests were made at the time, Melendez said. Police were investigating.
Teen threatens suicide at Jackson Heights school
JACKSON HEIGHTS — A 16-year-old deaf student threatened to kill himself Tuesday at the Lexington School for the Deaf after a fight with his girlfriend, police said.
The teen went to the roof of the school at 26-26 75th St. in Jackson Heights at about 8:15 a.m. and threatened to jump, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
The Emergency Service Unit, Truck 7, arrived at the scene and Rescue Officer William Fischer, who heard the call on the radio, managed to talk him down using sign language, Chew said.
The teen was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for evaluation, Chew said.
19-year-old hit by bat on Beach 20th Street
FAR ROCKAWAY — A 19-year-old man was assaulted at about 8 p.m. Sunday at 10-37 Beach 20th St., police said.
The victim was hit on the head with a baseball bat by an unidentified person, said Detective Madelyne Galindo, a police spokeswoman. Reasons for the attack were not known.
He was taken to St. John’s Hospital in stable condition, Galindo said. Police were investigating.
Two young men stabbed in Far Rockaway
FAR ROCKAWAY — Two young people were stabbed at 12-61 Central Avenue at 9:20 p.m., police said.
The 18-year-old female victim was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital and the 20-year-old male victim was taken to St. John’s Hospital, said Detective Madelyne Galindo, a police spokeswoman.
No arrests were made at the time, Galindo said. Police were investigating.
Two men stabbed outside LIC building
LONG ISLAND CITY — Two young men were stabbed outside the Queensbridge Houses at 40-03 10th St. Saturday, police said.
The victims, ages 18 and 22, were each stabbed several times in their torsos, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
They were taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition and were expected to recover, Chew said.
Police were investigating.
Brooklyn driver dies in GCP accident, fire
KEW GARDENS — A Brooklyn man died when his car caught fire after an accident on the Grand Central Parkway at the Jackie Robinson Expressway Monday, police said.
The accident happened about 6 a.m. when the driver of a 1994 Nissan, a 33-year-old man, lost control of the car on the entrance ramp to the westbound Grand Central from the Jackie Robinson, said Officer Lee Ann Tracy, a police spokeswoman.
The Nissan crossed the central divider and collided with a 1986 Pontiac Firebird traveling east. The Firebird caught fire, killing the 51-year-old driver, Tracy said. The victim’s name was not released, pending the notification of his family.
Two passengers were removed from the burning Firebird by an off-duty police officer. They did not suffer life-threatening injuries and were treated at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens and Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan, Tracy said.
Woodside woman, 20, raped by man she knew, say cops
WOODSIDE — A 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted Monday by a 23-year-old man known to her, police said.
The assault happened at about 8 p.m. at 72nd Street and 41st Avenue in Woodside, said Detective Madelyne Galindo, a police spokeswoman. The victim was treated at Elmhurst Hospital.
Police arrested Abet Perez, who is homeless, and charged him with rape, Galindo said.
Driver charged with homicide in death of crash victim
ASTORIA — A 55-year-old man was killed when a car hit his Jeep Tuesday night, police said.
Agisilaos Vasiliou was pronounced dead at Astoria General Hospital, said Carmen Melendez, a police spokeswoman.
A car driven by Douglas Rojas, 18, allegedly ran a red light at high speed through the intersection of Crescent Street and Hoyt Avenue in Astoria at 9 p.m., hitting the Jeep, Melendez said.
Rojas and a 19-year-old passenger were treated at Elmhurst Hospital for minor injuries.
Rojas was charged with criminally negligent homicide, Melendez said.
School bus in accident in South Ozone Park
OZONE PARK — A mini-school bus carrying seven mentally disabled students was involved in a car accident at about 8 a.m. Monday, police said.
The fender-bender occurred at 150th Avenue and 114th Place in South Ozone Park, police said.
The children were taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital for observation. No summonses were issued.
Two Arverne men charged with conspiracy
OZONE PARK — Two young men from Arverne were arrested last Thursday and charged with conspiracy to commit murder and robbery, police said.
Police, acting on information from Bronx narcotics investigators and the Queens district attorney’s office, arrested Melvin Gonzalez, 19, and Sherwin Panonette, 22, both of 616 Beach 67th Street, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
The 106th Precinct covers Howard Beach, Lindenwood, South Ozone Park, and Broad Channel.
Store worker shot in leg in Richmond Hill robbery
RICHMOND HILL — A store worker was shot during a robbery Tuesday morning, police said.
The victim was shot in the leg by one of two robbers, who fled from the luncheonette at 91-17 130th St. in Richmond Hill with $250, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
Police were investigating, Chew said.
IS 67 kids complain of pains, likely from cleaning fumes
CORONA — Eleven intermediate school students were taken to the hospital Friday after complaining of stomach pains and nausea, apparently caused by a bleach and pneumonia mixture their teacher used to clean the classroom, police said.
Police and fire officials responded to a call at 11:30 a.m. from IS 61 at 98-50 50th Ave.
The students were taken to Elmhurst Hospital for observation, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
Corona man, 43, charged with trying to kidnap boy
CORONA — A man was arrested Tuesday and charged with the attempted kidnapping of a 3-year-old boy on Monday, police said.
Faliciano Rodriguez, 43, of 100-02 Spruce St. in Corona allegedly grabbed the boy, who was walking with his mother and sister in front of a McDonald’s at 40-12 103rd St. in Corona at about 12:15 p.m., said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
Rodriguez allegedly ran down the street with the child, and the boy’s 28-year-old mother ran after him, lunged at him, and managed to grab her son out of his arms, Chew said.
Rodriguez was arrested Tuesday after police canvassed the area, Chew said.
