The Mitchell Linden Colts defeated the Boys Club 7-3. Jeremy Franco pitched a three-hitter with 11 K’s. Max Meltzer went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Bobby Preston smacked a two-run homer and Franco went 2-for-2 and a walk with three runs scored.
In what is considered the Army-Navy game in the Mitchell Linden organization, the Mitchell Linden Colts defeated the Mitchell Linden Jets, 9 -3. Jeremy Franco was outstanding, going all the way with a career-high 14 strikeouts. Max Meltzer went 3-for-4, while Bobby Preston, Kennedy Javier and Tommy Schreiber provided some key hits.
“It was the best birthday present I could ask for,” said coach Gary Schreiber, who was celebrating his birthday.
Jorden Wiener pitched well for the Jets, striking out 12. Chris Tromp, who earlier got hit with a Franco fastball, came back to line a single to right for the Jets.
The Mitchell Linden Colts defeated the St. Aloysisus Titans, 13-7, in extra innings. This time it was a new hero for the Colts, as Kennedy Javier singled, doubled, tripled and walked. Tommy Schreiber went 3-for-4, Rodney Nunez went 2-for-2 with two walks and Brian Portilla and Steve Vaituulala had key run-scoring singles to ignite the Colts. Max Meltzer came in relief and won his first game of the year, striking out 11, Jeremy Franco pitched a scoreless seventh for his first save.
The Mitchell Linden Colts defeated the Transfiguration Broncos, 16-9, in extra innings. Kennedy Javier went 4-for-4, including two home runs with a career-high eight RBIs. Early in the game, with the Broncos leading 9-4, Chisandry Javier made a spectacular catch in center field and fired a strike to third to double up a runner and kill a Bronco rally. Tommy Schreiber had his first career four-hit game. Bobby Preston also added four hits, with a home run. Key hits also came off of the bats of Brian Portilla, Sean Fitzgerald, Rodney Nunez, Steve Vaituulala, Max Meltzer and Jeremy Franco, who also had a home run and won his second game in relief.
The Colts finished the year 11-3 after going 0 and 13 last year.
