Police Blotter: Three hurt in car accident at Northern, Parsons blvds.

FLUSHING—Three people were listed in stable condition last week after a two-vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and Parsons Boulevard, police said.

The accident happened at about 2 p.m. Aug. 9, police said.

The occupants of the first vehicle, a 26-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, were taken to New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens in stable condition, police said. The 81-year-old driver of the second vehicle was taken to the same hospital in serious condition.

Man shot in MacNeil Park fired at self: Cops

COLLEGE POINT — A man was found in MacNeil Park Wednesday morning shot once in the head in an apparent self-inflicted wound, police said. He was in serious condition, police said.

The man, believed to be in his 40s or 50s, was discovered on a park bench in the park at 115th Street and Poppenhusen Avenue around 8:40 a.m., police said. He was taken to New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens, where he was listed in serious condition Wednesday morning.

FDNY mechanic arrested for using stole credit card: DA

ELMHURST— A Fire Department mechanic was arrested Wednesday and charged with stealing the wallet of a fire marshal whose car he was fixing, then using the marshal’s credit card to make purchases, the Queens district attorney said.

Michael Nin of Brentwood, L.I. was accused of taking the marshal’s wallet, which was in his vehicle, on Aug. 10 as he was fixing the car, District Attorney Richard Brown said. After leaving work, Nin allegedly went to several stores in Queens, including J.C. Penny and Sears on Queens Boulevard, to make purchases with the Discover credit card.

The district attorney said Nin, 35, charged more than $1,400 on the credit card, but when he tried to buy a $1,700 flat-screen television from Circuit City, the clerk voided the sale after the card was rejected.

Nin was charged with several counts of grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, the DA said.

Robber in 2-boro spree sought by police

FRESH MEADOWS — Queens and Brooklyn robbery squad detectives described a man who has hit the two boroughs in a robbery pattern as a black man 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet tall, and 150 to 175 pounds.

In both patterns, the police said, a man talking on a cell phone enters a grocery store or deli carrying a multi-colored drawstring bag and makes some purchases. He then re-enters the store carrying a gun with a laser light and demands money.

The man then flees the store with cash and cigarettes. The police identified eight robberies in Queens and 10 robberies in Brooklyn as part of the pattern.

The stores hit in Queens were at 157-23 Rockaway Blvd. on July 7; 157-45 Springfield Blvd. on July 17; 192-21 Union Turnpike on July 20; 157-23 Rockaway Blvd. on July 22; 118-02 Rockaway Blvd. on Aug. 4; 143-45 Springfield Blvd. on Aug. 6; 116-69 Sutphin Blvd. on Aug. 12 and 78-21 Atlantic Ave. on Aug. 14.

Queens drug-enforcement cop arrested on drug charges

BROOKLYN — A Queens narcotics detective was arrested on federal drug charges Friday and will be prosecuted in Texas, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District said.

Winston White was charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute marijuana, said Michael Beys of the U.S. Attorney’s office.

White was set to be indicted in Texas, Beys said Monday. No further information on his case was available from New York authorities. Texas prosecutors did not return a call requesting comment.

White, a nine-year veteran, is assigned to the Southeast Queens Initiative, which combats drug trafficking in Jamaica, Queens Village, Far Rockaway and Ozone Park, The New York Times reported Monday.

Rosedale construction worker killed on job in Long Island

NASSAU COUNTY — A construction foreman from Rosedale died on the job Aug. 9 after a steel plate slipped from a chain overhead and hit him, police said.

Jose Carlos Forte, 32, of 149-51 259th St. in Rosedale was working for New York Depot, a soil excavation recycling plant, in North Lawrence, L.I. at the time of his death, Nassau County police said.

At about 9:15 a.m., Forte was directing the movement of a steel roadway plate, an 8-by-20-foot sheet of metal weighing about 5,000 pounds and attached to a crane by a length of chain, police said.

The plate slipped from the chain and struck Forte, police said. The victim was taken to St. John’s Hospital in Far Rockaway where he was pronounced dead at 9:55 a.m., police said.

No one else was injured. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was investigating.

Laurelton man and friend arrested in murder plot

MANHATTAN — Police arrested Rodney Baily of 44-34 230th Place, Laurelton, and Pedro Hernandez of 260 Arlington Ave., Brooklyn, on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, police said. The arrests were in Manhattan.

One of the suspects who worked at Def Jam Records at 825 8th Ave. had thought he was going to be fired and convinced the other suspect, his friend, to help him retaliate by allegedly killing his supervisor, police said.

The supervisor was unaware of the plot, said the NYPD.

Police arrest two teens in Far Rockaway shooting

FAR ROCKAWAY — Detectives Saturday arrested two Far Rockaway teens in the shooting of another teenager.

Eric Simms, 18, and Pablo Sanchez, 17 both of 125 Beach 17th St. in Far Rockaway, were charged in the shooting of a 16-year-old Friday, police said.

Police said Friday the victim was likely to die at St. John’s Hospital in Far Rockaway. No further information was available from the hospital.

11-year-old girl abducted in apparent custody fight

ST. ALBANS — An 11-year-old girl was abducted Wednesday morning from a day camp center at Roy Wilkins Park in an apparent custody dispute, police said.

Around 10:15 a.m., the girl was being dropped off at the camp at 177th Street and Baisley Boulevard, when a man and two women came out of a car and grabbed the child, police said.

The police said the adults fled in the vehicle with the 11-year-old.

Ridgewood man charged with robbery of driver

HOLLIS — Damien Vernon, 19, of 195-21 Woodhull St. in Ridgewood was arrested and charged with robbery Saturday, police said.

Vernon was arrested at Long Island Medical Center where he went for treatment for a gunshot wound to his foot, police said.

The NYPD said that earlier in the day Vernon jumped into the front seat of Red Carpet Car Service car at Farmers Boulevard and 114th Avenue and pointed a gun at the 43-year-old driver.

The driver refused to hand over any money and after a struggle the gun was fired, hitting Vernon in the foot, police said.

The driver was not hurt, police said.

Cops: Man slashes own throat after hurting woman in Jamaica

JAMAICA — A man was listed in critical condition after slashing his throat following an attack on his girlfriend early Saturday morning, police said.

The 41-year-old girlfriend was listed in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital after sustaining a stab wound to her shoulder.

Police did not give the location of the attack, which took place in the 103rd Precinct’s southeast Queens coverage area.

Gunman robs deli in South Jamaica

SOUTH JAMAICA — A deli and grocery store was robbed by an armed man Sunday, police said.

The man entered the store at 116-69 Sutphin Blvd., displayed a gun and announced a robbery, police said. He fled with about $500 in cash and a carton of cigarettes.

The robbery fit a pattern of several such crimes this summer in Queens and Brooklyn.

New Jersey man arrested in ’99 Ridgewood murders

RIDGEWOOD — Ruben Reyes, 31, of New Jersey was arrested Monday in the 1999 murder of Wasyl Sluzala , 74, and Sophie Sluzala, 64, of 60-15 Madison St. in Ridgewood, police said.

The two victims were killed in their home on Aug. 19, 1999, police said.

Corona man arrested in Fla. in July 30 Queens murder

CORONA — Florida authorities arrested a Corona man Aug. 8 in last month’s murder of a 31-year-old man in Queens, police said.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office arrested Juan Nunez, 23, of 37-36 107th St. in Corona at 2 p.m. in the parking lot of a Boca Raton, Fla. Burger King, police said. The suspect was turned over to Queens police.

Nunez was charged with murder in the second degree in the July 30 shooting death of Jose Niola, 31, police said. Niola died from a gunshot wound to the head July 31, police said.

33-year-old woman struck by vehicle on Queens Blvd.

SUNNYSIDE — A 33-year-old woman was hurt when she was struck while crossing Queens Boulevard Tuesday, police said.

The victim was crossing the boulevard when she was hit by a vehicle turning east onto the boulevard from 43rd Street, police said.

She was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital with minor injuries and listed in stable condition, police said.

No summonses were issued to the driver.

L.I. man, 20, arrested in Woodhaven shooting

WOODHAVEN — Kareem Harrison, 20, of 124 Lawrence St. in Uniondale, L.I. was arrested last Thursday in the July 17 shooting of a teenager whom he knew at 97th Street and 37th Avenue in Woodhaven, police said.

At the time of the shooting the 17-year-old victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left foot and was in stable condition, police said.

Harrison was charged with assault, said the NYPD.

Astoria baby boy dies after found unconscious

ASTORIA — A 22-month-old baby died Sunday after he was found unconscious in his home.

Police found the child at 3-20 27th Ave. in Astoria. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital of Queens where he was declared dead, police said.

The incident did not appear suspicious, but police were awaiting the medical examiner’s report.

Man struck and killed by No. 7 train in tunnel

SUNNYSIDE — A man in his 30s was fatally struck by a subway last Wednesday night while walking in a tunnel near the Lowery Street station, police said.

The victim was hit by the train around 8:30 p.m. in the No. 7 train tunnel. He was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

38-year-old man found dead in Ridgewood

RIDGEWOOD — A 38-year-old man was found dead at about 5:30 a.m. Monday in front of 16-08 George St. in Ridgewood, police said.

The medical examiner is to determine the cause of death.
