People around the nation and world, even those who were born long after Lucille Ball’s sitcom debuted Oct. 15, 1951 on the new invention of television, are apt to say, “I Love Lucy.”
If Milton Berle was the king of TV’s Golden Age, Ball was certainly its queen. Whether you remember the original Monday evening airings on CBS (the first sitcom to be shot on film rather than broadcast live) or have seen the reruns still being played, you probably can’t watch an infomercial without recalling Lucy unwittingly getting drunk on “Vitameatavegamin,” or eat a piece of chocolate without thinking back with a chuckle to Lucy’s stint in a chocolate factory.
To celebrate the legendary comic, the Queens Library presents a series of presentations by Kathleen Brady, author of “Lucille: The Life of Lucille Ball.” With anecdotes, behind-the-scene revelations, and interviews with more than 150 people, Brady paints a profile of the Lucy you may not have known.
The series begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Middle Village Branch, 72-31 Metropolitan Ave. with a 50th Anniversary Salute with cultural historian Jim Levey.
