The World Trade Center tragedy continues to be of primary concern both in safeguarding the people and in honoring the NYFD, NYPD, EMT and volunteers. Many memorial services were held throughout the New York area.
The Columbiettes held a soup and sandwich dinner for $5 at the St. Ambrose Council #1463, Knights of Columbus. Donation to the NYPD & NYFD Widows and Children’s Fund.
The College Point Memorial Service for Victims of the World Trade Center Disaster took place on Sunday at MacNeil Park. Many organizations, schools and houses of worship participated. Everyone assembled to pay homage to the victims and honor the dedicated rescue workers. United we stand for a brighter future.
Congratulations to Rosa and Pedro Castro on their oncoming 72nd wedding anniversary. They are very pleasant and always have a smile on their face. They should write a best seller for the newly weds.
Congratulations to Roseann and Thomas Nevins on their nuptials at the Blessed Sacrament/St. Stevens Church. The groom’s parents, Maryann and Thomas Nevins were so very happy.

The Board of Trade will celebrate its 32nd anniversary at its dinner on Sunday, Nov. 4 at Antun’s in Queens Village. They are also helping promote the upcoming Export Financing Symposium with Congressman Crowley and the Queens Chamber of Commerce. The Blessing and Dedication of Tuller Hall took place at St. Paul’s School by Dr. Paul Hamilton, headmaster, Senator Frank Padavan, Fred Mazzarello, Mabel Lee, principal, Archbishop Nicholas Lambrou, Rev. Leopold Baynes and Rocco Cardali and me. Luncheon followed in Mottram Hall.

Saturday, Oct. 27, 3 p.m., Poppenhusen Institute — storytelling and songs with singer Patricia Shih and Stephen Fricker (who performed at MacNeil Park this summer). Audience participation includes singing, dancing, costumes, movement and sign language. Highlight of the show is the “Twelve Days of Halloween,” a special version using audience members in costume. Refreshments will be served after the show. Trick or Treat bags will be given to the children to take home. $8, $5 members. Adult who stays must also purchase tickets. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
The second annual Bob Burke Memorial Golf Outing Sponsored by the Emerald Society, Queens Private Bus Lines, Eugene Wynne, president and chairman and Jim Beinlich, co-chairman took place and although it rained a little in the morning, the sun then came out and the game was played.

It was wonderful to see and hear how the children and adults wanted to be a part of memorial services in the communities to honor the NYFD, NYPD, EMT and volunteers who gave their lives at the World Trade Center. It is this united love and effort that makes it easier to bear this tremendous loss.
