Long Island City doctor arrested on sex charges

By Dustin Brown

A Park Avenue doctor last week was arrested and charged with sexually abusing two patients in his Long Island City office, three days before a Woodside ultrasound technician was arrested on sodomy charges for an alleged incident at a Manhattan hospital.

Milton Smith, 55, of 1000 Park Avenue in Manhattan, was arrested Nov. 14 and charged with two separate counts of sexual abuse in the third degree for allegedly molesting patients in his office at 34-04 Queens Blvd.

He was released on $2,000 bail following his arraignment Nov. 15 in Queens Criminal Court, Queens District Attorney spokeswoman Betsy Herzog said.

Smith is accused of fondling two patients who visited his office earlier this year, according to the criminal complaint. One patient came into the office June 20 for treatment of her left wrist, and the second saw Smith for a neck and back injury on Sept. 24.

Smith did not return phone calls by press time for comment.

Soe Naing, of 40-30 70th St. in Woodside, is accused of performing oral sex on a male patient who was “undergoing an ultrasound procedure in a medicated and semi-conscious state” at Manhattan’s St. Clare’s Hospital and Health Center, according to police and the criminal complaint.

He has been charged with sodomy in the first degree, which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison, Manhattan District Attorney spokeswoman Sherry Hunter said.

He was arraigned Sunday in Manhattan Criminal Court before Acting Supreme Court Justice Louis York, who released him on his own recognizance.

Naing, an immigrant, declined comment because he said he was not proficient in English.

“The only thing I can [say] is I’m innocent,” he said.
