Police Blotter: Man with mob ties found shot to death in Howard Beach: Cops

A man with ties to organized crime who once ran one of the largest stolen auto parts shops in the city was shot to death last week in Howard Beach, authorities said.

Martin Bosshart, 30, who was released from jail three months ago, was found with a single gunshot wound to the head on the corner of Lahn Street and 155th Aveune shortly before 9:30 p.m. Jan. 2, police said.

No arrests have been made, and police were continuing with an investigation along with the Queens district attorney’s office.

Bosshart was involved with credit card fraud, but his major operation involved a Queens auto chop shop, authorities said.

In 1996, Bosshart was charged with kidnapping, but pleaded to lesser charges and was sentenced to two-to-six years in prison, authorities said. He was released in October.

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, he was also a prime suspect in three 1995 murders in South Florida.

Woman leaps to death from Glen Oaks condo

GLEN OAKS — An unidentified woman died after apparently jumping from the 32nd floor of a luxury condominium tower off the Grand Central Parkway near the Nassau County border at 10:43 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The medical examiner is investigating the death.

Teen found dead in Queens Village home

QUEENS VILLAGE — An 18-year-old man was found dead at his home on Davenport Avenue Tuesday with multiple stab wounds in his chest, police said.

Police said they responded to a call for help at 10:19 a.m. and found the dead teenager. At press time, there were no arrests and police were continuing to investigate the case. They did not identify the man.

Cops seek two men in Woodside robbery

WOODSIDE — Police were searching for two gunmen who robbed a liquor store at 64-03 Broadway last week, police said.

The men entered the store at 11:20 p.m. Jan. 2, displayed their weapons and demanded money from the 47-year-old woman who was working at the time, police said.

The gunmen then fled the scene, police said. Police did not say how much money was stolen. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, police said.

At press time, police were searching for the following two suspects:

• A Hispanic man in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 190 pounds, wearing a Yankee baseball hat and a goatee and armed with a black handgun.

• A Hispanic man in his 20s, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 150 pounds, with light skin and a slight mustache and armed with a silver gun.

Anyone with information regarding this robbery is asked to call crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

Man dies after falling in front of E train

JAMAICA — A 40-year-old man died when he slipped off a subway platform and fell in front of a Manhattan-bound E train Sunday, police said.

The man exited a Queens-bound train at Sutphin Boulevard and Archer Avenue at 6:20 a.m. and fell in front of a different train, police said. The man died at the scene, police said.

The police investigation was ongoing at press time.

Bank robber gets away with $3K from Forest Hills bank

FOREST HILLS — An unidentified man stole $3,000 from a Queens Boulevard bank Tuesday, police said.

A white man, approximately 40 years old, entered the Sterling Bank at 108-01 Queens Blvd. at 12:45 p.m. and demanded money from the teller, who gave him approximately $3,000, police said. He then fled the location.

No gun or note was produced. The investigation was ongoing.

Man found dead in restaurant bathroom

Long Island City — A 47-year-old man was found dead Sunday on the floor of the City Lights Grill bathroom by the restaurant owner, police said.

Police said the owner discovered the body about 11 p.m. The restaurant is located at 48-17 Vernon Blvd.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of the death, police said.

Corrections Dept. worker arrested in Astoria/i>

ASTORIA — An employee of the city Corrections Department was arrested Friday for allegedly driving with a suspended license in western Queens, police said.

Desiree Martin, 31, who works at Rikers Island, was arrested at 9:30 a.m. in the confines of the 114th Precinct, which covers Astoria and portions of Long Island City, police said.

Man found dead on Corona street

CORONA — A man in his 40s was found dead next to a van at 99-37 42nd Ave. last Thursday, police said.

The man’s body was discovered about 9 a.m., police said. The cause of the man’s death was not known at press time, as police continued to investigate the incident.

Man found dead in Far Rockaway home

FAR ROCKAWAY — A 41-year-old man was found dead in his bedroom on Brookhaven Avenue last Thursday, police said.

Police said there were no signs of foul play. The medical examiner will determine the cause of the man’s death, police said.
