The Black Spectrum Theatre Company will host their first in a series of tributes to community heroes. The series will honor people from various fields who dedicate their lives to their communities. The first honorees are businessman Pooor Freddie, educator Jacqueline Brown and entertainer Arthur Prysock.
Pooor Freddie was a businessman and community activist who could always be found near Merrick and Farmer’s Boulevard doing much more than dealing with and fixing cars. “He also dealt with people and shared many encouraging moments with our community,” said Linda Anderson of the Black Spectrum Theatre.
Jacqueline Brown held several administrative positions in District 29, including deputy superintendent and administrative superintendent for school improvement. She went on to become superintendent of District 25 and was one of the founding board members of the Black Spectrum Theatre. “She was a down to Earth, no nonsense and intellectual, dynamic lady,” Anderson said.
Arthur Prysock, best known for his sensuous and debonair voice with a career lasting more than 40 years. He is best known for his piece, “This Is My Beloved.”
In addition to the tribute, which is free to all attending, the Spectrum Marketplace will be open for shopping, as will the Spectrum Spotlight Lounge and vendors’ corner.
