Welcome to the Point. The Point being College Point. All your senses were tested during the holidays with the lights and the horns, and I am sure you came out glaring and holding your ears, but I hope that your celebration was worthy.
Speedy recovery to Lucie Shannon and to Kay Bair.
It was wonderful seeing an equestrian extravaganza, Cheval, in Las Vegas. An imagination of full gallop was performed under a big circus tent. Cheval celebrated the horse in spectacular ways and the 30 four-legged stars are positively radiant. All the circus trapping are there from fanciful costumes to really live music. There are many show- stopping stunts The Zamperla Zoppe Family did many stunts on the horses. Two of their youngest members — a 9-year old and his 13-year-old brother did their stunts on ponies. More of the show is devoted to things a horse can be trained to do within natural limits. Veteran trainer Caroline Williams at one point has six Andalusians.
In the ring pirouetting and crisscrossing like choreographed ballroom dancers were a beautiful white stallion named PomPom and six spectacular numbers. I only wished I could have taken him home but he wouldn’t have had the room he deserves.
I went to the Zoological Botanical Park and saw two beautiful lions that are 3 years old, Midas and M.G. I met the director, Pat Dingle and his enthusiasm with regard to the zoo and the animals was unique. They do have an animal adoption program and a membership program which assists in enlarging this zoo.
This is extremely important so that the children learn about the animals, how they are taken care of and the love that is built in our young generation. There was a beautiful tiger, many birds, peacocks, gorillas, ostriches, parrots, and many snakes. I just loved the animals.
We celebrated New Year’s in Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church at Bevan Hall with the Knights of Columbus with a live band, dancing, catered meal and children’s activities, if you have any with you.
NOTE…Parents who read have children who read. Children who read grow up to be more informed adults with more options in life. Reading to children after dinner gives them not only a reason to read. It builds memories in any family.
SABINA SAYS…Don’t put off for tomorrow that which you can do today, especially showing love and concern for family members, neighbors and those that need love and understanding. Today is the day to do it.
