‘Art of the Song’ at Flushing Town Hall

Musica Reginae Productions continues its Accolade Concert Series for 2002 with “The Art of the Song,” an illuminating exploration into the world of lieder, opera and Broadway. This performance in Flushing Town Hall, a beautiful new concert space at 137-35 Northern Blvd., will be at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The second of a three-concert series, “The Art of the Song” will feature sopranos Julie Miller and Patti Jo Stevens (who will make her New York City Opera debut in a featured role this coming fall), mezzo-soprano Charlotte Surkin, tenor Kevin Carlson and baritone Vaughn Fritts. Among the selections are “I Can Cook, Too” from Leonard Bernstein’s “On The Town,” ”Songs My Mother Taught Me,” from Anton Dvorak’s “Gypsy Songs,” and selections of well-known arias from “La Traviata,” “La Forza del Destino” and “Rigoletto.”

Musica Reginae’s Artistic Director David Close who will host and serve as featured pianist. Close regularly appeared with the Paul Whiteman Historic Aeolian Hall Concert and performed in Carnegie Hall as pianist for George Antheil’s Ballet Mecanique before he dedicated himself to the cause of classical music in Queens. Musica Reginae presents first-rate classical and contemporary music events bringing exciting artists and outstanding music to Queens’ audiences.

Tickets may be purchased at the box office on the day of the performance. Children under 12 accompanied by an adult will be admitted for free. Parking is also free in Town Hall’s adjacent parking lot. Call Musica Reginae at 279-4842.
