Yorki Munoz, of Jackson Heights, became the first member of the College Point Road Runners Track Club to cross the finish line in the Brooklyn Half Marathon.
The 32-year-old Munoz was timed in 1:12.29 and finished eighth overall in a field of 4,068 entrants of 3,427 finishers. Matt Wilkinson, of Westfield, Pa., won the race in 1:10.28.
“The weather was just beautiful,” Munoz said. “We ran on a perfect day.”
Munoz will now prepare for the Queens Half Marathon to be held on Saturday, April 13.
Munoz puts in about 60 miles a week of training and when he doesn’t enter a competitive race, he works out at the Rockefeller Preserve in upstate New York.
Last year he ran a 1:15 for the Queens Half Marathon, put on by the New York Road Runners Club in conjunction with the CPRRTC. His best time for a Queens Half is 1:15 two years ago.
Meanwhile, teammate Marco Monjardin, 22, who ran a 1:14:59 for 19th place and was the second member of the CPRRTC to finish the Brooklyn race, is also preparing for the Queens Half.
Overall, 25 members of the local club competed in the Brooklyn Half Marathon, including Keith Sullivan and Ramiro Munoz. The latter ran a 1:29.47 for 32 place and Sullivan was timed in 1:30.24 for 333rd place. They are preparing for the Boston Marathon to take place on the Monday after the Queens Half.
With spring in the air, the members of the CPRRTC will now be out in force competing in races.
