The 90th anniversary of Girl Scouting — started in the United States by Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low — was celebrated at First Reformed Church. Greeters at the door were Cadets Allison Augstein and Patti Daly. The scripture lesson was read by Cadet Joanna Sawyer and Cadet Bianca Ventura led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The welcome and introduction of leaders and special guests was made by Eva Hrastnig-Mieras, delegate of N.Q. III Service Unit. “The promise and the law” and candle ceremony by were performed by Tiffany Trockel, cadet.
The Daisies will repeat the Law and Promise with Leader Maureen Haubrich and Co-Leader Barbara Arocho. “Daisy Song” was performed by Daisy Troop 4-175 and its leader, Jacqueline Valente from St. Fidelis.
I am an honorary Daisy along with Betty Pegen and we were adopted by Eva Hrastnig-Mieras for Daisy Troop 4-574.
Daisy Troop 4-175 meets at St. Fidelis. Troop members include Megan Alicea, Irene Koutsoulidakis, Alyssa Mickalauskas, Meagan Swithers, Kristen Emilia Kangas, Jelena Ljubicic, Hanna Sheeran, Christine Valente, Meghan Kennedy, Catherine Markart and Karla Silva.
Junior Troop 4-046 meets at First Reformed Church. Dorothy Schneider and Denise Fox lead the troop which includes members Cassandra Baldanza, Sara Corrado, Marlena Dobular, Jacklyn Fischer, Jacquelyn Guzzetta, Danielle Merino, Deidre O’Neill, Samantha Battista, Heather Dawson, Samantha Eberle, Michelle Foulds, Sarah Jaghamin, Kelly Montoya, Christna Colorundo, Samantha Demonte, Danielle Fischer, Karen Gutierrez, Alyssa Luizza and Tianna Myles.
Cadet Troop 4-626 meets at St. Fidelis and includes Allison Augstein, Kathleen Buechel, Kaitlyn Haubrich, Lauren Trautwig, Brittany Bell, Patti Daly, Joanna Sawyer, Nicole Valerio, Alexandra Borek, Megan D’Orazi, Brittany Schieler and Tiffany Trockel.
Girl Scout troops have been meeting in First Reformed Church since 1933. The North Queens 111 Service Unit has about 322 leaders. There are 43 troops and 695 Girl Scouts.
Those who achieved the Gold Award in Girl Scouting since 1988 under the leadership of Judy Eisenberg and Lucie Shannon are Lori Dunn, Victoria Edwards, Deborah Eisenberg, Jennifer Shannon, Dawn Demmerle, Brenda Cooney, Mary Mullins, Danielle DeStefano, Jennifer Motz, Theresa Schneider, Cristina Cohen, Pamela Eisenberg, Tanya Mieras, Melissa Remiszewski, Lisa McCarthy, Karen Remiszewski, Beth Vesely, Dawn Remiszewski and Terri Wescott.

You don’t need to be a mother to become a leader. Retired women and grandmothers could be a vast and infinite resource for our young folks, who need this kind of involvement and activity. You could be the key to help them achieve more in life.
At Whitestone Lanes, Greta Hruska bowled 210, Helen Liang 200, congratulations. Happy birthday to Helen Von Ohlen.
A speedy recovery to Sgt. David Wurtz who was injured in Operation Anaconda, the major American offensive in the mountains of eastern Afghanistan. His parents, Joan and Clem Wurtz, were relieved to read about it in the news.

Holy Trinity School Fashion Show will be held Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m. at The Immaculate Conception Center, 7200 Douglaston Parkway, Douglaston. The event includes a hot buffet, open bar, Viennese table for $38 per person. Tickets are available at the school and church offices.
SABINA SAYS — I have had two wonderful St. Patrick’s Day celebrations: one at the Terrace on the Park with the Chamber of Commerce and the other with the Knights of Columbus.
Believe it or not, I am not even Irish but I was dressed all in green and no one knew the difference.
