The Our Lady of the Snows CYO girls’ fourth grade volleyball team, coached by Michele McGovern and Erica Goldstein, defeated St. Thomas More of Breezy Point 2-1 to take home the Diocesan Championship trophy for their division.
Jen Brosnan led OLS to a fast start and victory in the opening game which was played at Archbishop Molloy High School in Briarwood.
St. Thomas, which had finished in first place during the regular season, came back to win the second game and force the deciding contest.
With St. Thomas leading 14-6, OLS regained serve. Ellie Alexandrou served beautifully and Snows crept back into the game.
Despite timeouts and substitutions, Ellie kept her concentration and served for 10 consecutive points to lead her team to a thrilling come from behind win, 16-14.
All of the girls on the OLS squad made contributions to the Championship victory.
Jen Brosnan, Ellie Alexandrou, Katie Graham, Mindy Goldstein, Jessica Olwell, Christina Fristachi, Tisha Paul, Marianna Brunetti, Nicolette Pullo and Sneja Mohan comprised the Championship roster of OLS.
