St. Andrew’s Big Green extended its record to 2-0 following a 16-8 win over St. Stan’s last Thursday.
Once again Andrew’s pitchers took command of the game early as John McEntee allowed only one hit and one run while striking out four Stan’s batters over the first three innings.
St. Andrew’s jumped to an early 6-1 lead through three inning on aggressive hitting by Arton Haliti (3-for-5) Daniel Capeau (2-for-2, two walks), John McEntee (2-for-3, walk), Michael Lopesti (4-for-4), Matt Routy (3-for-4) Sean McEveeney (3-for-4) and Emilio Benitz (1-for-4).
Andrew’s long ball was a factor as well. Matt Routh hit St. Andrew’s first home run of the year (a 200-footer to right center) while driving in two runs. McEntee had 5 RBIs while Haliti knocked in two, Lopresti and McEnerney each had three RBIs and Evan Shin drove in one.
Big Green pitchers McEntee, Haliti and McEnerney struck out eight Stan’s hitters while allowing only four hits.
The Andrews gloves sparkled as they were responsible for pick offs at third base and first bade, as well as three put outs of Stan’s runners during steal attempts.
The balance of the Green Machine’s players continued to be productive as David Dominguez (1-for-2) tripled and Billy Almon, Jimmy Ceco, Matt Galizia and Omarlie Acquitsa contributed defensively.
