Biordi Construction 12, Mittmen's Medics 6. Biordi’s Nicky Macchia hit his first home run, a three-run blast, to star in a 17-6 win over Mittmen's Medics. Joe McManus (2-for-3) led the offense, which collected 12 hits. Pitchers Tom Karcinski and Frankie Biordi both combined for the win on the hill. Mittmen’s was led by Dominic Formato’s strong pitching and hitting in the loss.
Biordi Construction 11, Clearview Paint 7. Biordi made it two in a row over the weekend with an 11-7 win over Clearview Paint. The bats remained hot, as Frankie Biordi and Thomas Karcinski went a combined 5-for-7 with five RBIs. Defensively, J.J. Prudente, Sam Rowen, John Varsam, Tyler Parise and Joe McManus starred to hold on late for the win. Pitcher Nicky Burns (three strong innings) got the win and Ben Gould recorded the save in his first pitching performance of the year. Clearview Paint was led by Jesse Pau and Anthony Palermo, who provided great defense, while Joe Vacaro and Don Randell had two hits each in defeat.
Prava Construction 10, Papazzio’s 8. Stars for Prava Construction in the 10-8 victory were pitcher Bennett O'Donnell, who threw two strong innings, Liam Dullahan (a single and two RBIs) and great defense by Brandon Guadalupe. For Papazzio’s, Thomas DeCicco (two-run double, one run scored), Timothy Hom (RBI single, one run scored) and Nicholas Ziangas (three strong innings pitched) led the offensive attack, while Brandon Putre and Thomas Dougherty played flawless defense in the loss.
Jackson Hole 16, Prava Construction 15. Jackson Hole held on to win in this offensive contest, 16-15 over Prava Construction. Prava’s John Aponte went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Michael Marden had a triple and three RBIs and Bennett O’Donnell had a great pitching performance in defeat.
Monahan & Fitzgerald’s 10, Clearview Paint 0. Monahan’s was led by the strong pitching of Kevin Durkan and Danny Finn, who combined to pitch a two-hit shutout while striking out 15. The offense was led by Joseph Jensen, who hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs, Andrew Schindler with two doubles and three RBIs and by Matthew Sagianis, who contributed a run-scoring single. Clearview Paint was led by Jesse Pau, who struck out the side in his only inning of work, and by Anthony Palermo, who reached base twice and hurled two innings striking out four batters.
Monahan & Fitzgerald’s 13, Outback Steakhouse 3. Kevin Durkan and Danny Finn pitched six strong innings, allowing only three runs, striking out 14 and walking only four batters for the winners. They also were big for the offense, as Durkan scored five runs and Finn went 3-for-3 and drove in six runs. Joseph Jensen also contributed two hits and two RBIs, while James Flaherty came up with a big hit for his team as well. Outback was led by Andrew Bodnar, who had two hits including a run-scoring triple, and Mike Palamara, who also contributed a run-scoring triple.
North Shore Baptist 13 Papazzio’s 7. North Shore Baptist stayed on a roll with a 13-7 victory over Papazzio’s Restaurant. Michael McGrath led Papazzio’s in the five-run fifth inning to keep the game close with a two-run double scoring Chris Doherty and Timothy Hom, who got on base to lead-off the inning. Thomas Dougherty was outstanding in the field with two key stops at third base and right field.
Papazzio’s 7, Jackson Hole 2. Brian Wren delivered a three-run home run in the top of the first that gave the lead to Papazzio’s Restaurant for good. Steve McNamara added a three-run home run to cement the win for Papazzio’s.
R. Klein CPA 10, Jackson Hole 8. In a close contest, R. Klein CPA held on to defeat Jackson Hole, 10-8. Game balls were handed out to R. Klein’s Alex Langrock (great pitching), Robert Goger (three strong innings pitched, 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs) and Jordan Mandel (two hits and two RBIs). Jackson Hole was led by Steven Toumaniois, who pitched two strong innings and was on base all three times. Chris Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Andrew Goldstein had two hits and a spectacular catch on a hard hit line drive to second base.
R. Klein CPA 8, ZAB 2. Nicholas Coulianidis was on base two out of three times and played great defense behind the plate to lead R. Klein CPA to an 8-2 win. Robert Klein chipped in with a double and two RBIs and pitchers Steven Arroyo and Robert Goger combined for the victory on the mound. ZAB was led by Chris Cruz, who pitched three strong innings and had an RBI. Douglas Chu also went 2-for-3 with an RBI to pace ZAB.
PeeWee Division
Hollis Court vs. Mensch Lumber. Jonathan Biener hit two home runs despite being out for two weeks with a finger injury and teammate Tyler Longmore covered first base like a big leaguer. Mensch Lumber saw some outstanding defense from Charlie Solomon, who turned in an amazing, unassisted double play and had two great at bats. Matthew Ehrlic chipped in with a major league line drive in his turn at bat.
Prava Construction vs. Anna Marie's Bagels. Prava was led by the outstanding all-around play of Dylan Chateau and Paul Constaineda. Michael Low and Joe Anthony Cepeda were the stars for Anna Marie’s. Low covered first like a young Keith Hernandez and Cepeda played gold-glove defense at shortstop.
Major Division
Mardene Construction 7, Party City 1. Sean Donnelly pitched four hitless innings and Joey Mardene threw another two to shut down Party City’s offense. Sean Donnelly helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with a double. Party City’s lone run came on heads-up base running by Sam Koenig, who stole home.
Brigandi Barristers 12, V.I. Pizza 3. Glen Barker and George Theodoropoulos provided the pitching strength for the Brigandi Barristers. Mike Giaccio slammed a triple, driving in two, and teammate Paul Giacomino singled in a run and played a flawless second base to lead the way for the 8-1 Brigandi Barristers. V.I. Pizza’s DeMarco walked and played a fine right field and Lempert had a single and scored two runs in a tough game at Valle East.
Brigandi Barristers 3, Printing Express 1. Despite a good three innings pitched by Printing Express’ Andreou, the Barristers were just too tough to hit. Chris Paruch and Anthony Zupnick combined for a no-hitter in this six-inning contest. James Lizzul went 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI, while teammate George Theodoropoulos tripled in a run, walked and scored..
Biordi Construction 11, V.I. Pizza 6. Larry Mongelli and Chris Garthwright sparked the offense for Biordi. For V.I. Pizza, it was Anthony Ippolito who doubled and Andrew Parraga who stood out on defense.
Biordi Construction 4, Mardene Construction 3. Biordi Construction’s Joe Soares made a great play at first base in the bottom of the sixth to save what was to be an extra base hit and the tying run from scoring. Dylan Pleva drove in the tying run for Biordi in the top of the sixth. The game ended on a close play at home with Biordi’s catcher, Matt Valle, holding on to the ball for the last out. It was John Apostolo and Joey Mardene who tamed the powerful Biordi hitters for most of the game. Joey Mardene tripled, but his team couldn’t squeak out the win.
Valle Tile 2, Mardene Construction 1. Kyle Porter singled, moved over to second on the overthrow, stole third and scored when teammate Jorge Ynoa walked and ran down to first, not stopping, but continuing to second and inducing an overthrow to the outfield. Ynoa was then able to gamble his way home. Mardene was able to get two doubles from John Apostolo and Billy Demos, but only one was able to score.
Bell Bay Florist 6, Printing Express 5. Losing 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Bell Bay was able to rally and pull out a victory against a tenacious Printing Express. J.R. Alonzo tripled in a run and scored for the Florists. Kevin Holze stood out for Printing Express, hitting a two-run double and pitching three strong innings.
