The College Point Road Runners Track Club 5K summer series has been cut from four races to just two this year, the directors announced this week. The two runs will also be held on Wednesday nights, not Friday, as done previously.
The 3.1-mile races will begin and end near the Unisphere at the Queens Theatre in Flushing Meadows Corona Park and be held on Wednesday evenings June 12 and July 12, both going off at 7 p.m. Each race has several age categories with awards in each division.
Races are open to high school and college runners as well as open athletes.
The summer series drawn athletes from such schools as Grover Cleveland, St. Francis Prep. Molloy, Bryant, Cardozo and Holy Cross.
Children between ages 3 and 9 may compete in their own fun run, with ribbons awarded to all finishers. Applications are available for the summer series in local races in Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island, or at Quantum Feet, 188-13 Union Turnpike, Fresh Meadows or by calling 767-0412 or (212) 598-4652.
