Cross to honor victim of terror attacks

Holy Cross High School will honor one of its own on Saturday, June 8, when the Flushing school holds the first annual Ryan Fitzgerald 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.

The event will benefit the Ryan Fitzgerald ‘93 Scholarship Fund. Fitzgerald, who played basketball at the school during his senior season in 1992-93, was one of more than 3,000 people who died as a result of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. Fitzgerald worked at the World Trade Center for Fiduciary Trust.

The event, which will be held at Holy Cross, at 26-20 Francis Lewis Blvd., Flushing, will feature four divisions, 18-30, 30 and up, 40 and up and women’s in 3-on-3 competition. The cost per team to enter is $200 (four players max per team), which includes t-shirts, refreshments, a DJ, three-point contest, prizes for first- and second-place finishers and Mets and Yankees tickets.

Check-in is at 10 a.m. with the three-point contest tipping off the festivities at 10:30 a.m. The first game will start at 11 a.m.
