With graduations occurring and warm breezes blowing, we know that summer has arrived. I am sure all the children can’t wait to get to the beach, the ball game or the parks to exert all that extra energy. Always be a part of all their wonderful entertainment.
Attend the College Point Street Fair on Sunday, June 30, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; games, rides, vendors, food, music; 14th Avenue to 20th Avenue, College Point Boulevard. Vendor space is on a first-come basis.
College Point Civic/Taxpayers Association will meet Thursday, June 27, at 7 p.m. in VFW Hall, at 120-19 14th Rd., College Point. On the agenda is traffic, as-of-right building, 109th Precinct, etc.

Gabriella Kolessar from College Point is one of 60 high school students from 29 states and Japan selected to attend Phi Delta Kappa International’s summer camp for prospective teachers. The camp/institute was held at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. June 22-27. Her parents are Joseph and Maria. The camp is sponsored by PDK International and the PDK Educational Foundation. It is designed to introduce high school seniors to careers in education. The criteria used to select the students included scholastic achievement, and school and community activities.

The Catholic Learning Center’s 29th Annual Summer Reading and Math Tutoring Program will be at St. Fidelis during July or August. Children from first through eighth grades will be tutored by certified teachers in small groups of 10 or fewer for 30 hours of uninterrupted learning. The fee includes testing, material and parent conferences.
Diocesan Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebration invites couples married in 1952 to take part in a special prayer service. Attendees may invite family and friends. The Bishop will present each couple with a personalized scroll. Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony. Graffiti is a crime punishable by jail, monetary fine and/or community service. Any person caught defacing property without the permission of the owner will be arrested. Once considered a small problem caused by a handful of teenagers, graffiti has erupted into a nationwide epidemic costing billions each year. Statistics reveal that graffiti is not just committed by juveniles, adults also have been apprehended. Graffiti has been related to drug and gang violence, as well as the occult.
Safety First: Be safe, not sorry this Fourth of July and don’t set off illegal fireworks. Your eyes, hands or life cannot be replaced. You can be arrested. Your car can be confiscated and your business can be closed. A joint effort by the New York Police Department and the New York Fire Department can help save fingers, hands and lives.
