The remains of a car were scattered on the Grand Central Parkway and 94th Street after it crashed into another car Sunday at 4:30 a.m, police said.
The driver was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center in critical condition. The driver and passenger of the other car were taken to New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens in stable condition.
Moving train kills Glendale man Monday
GLENDALE — Joseph Morscher, 47, of 66-35 73rd Place was killed Monday at 4:15 p.m. while walking along LIRR tracks at 73rd Place and Edsall Ave, police said.
He was hit by an LIRR train that was moving into the rail yard and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police said the incident did not appear to be suspicious and the investigation was ongoing.
Teen victim of racial bias incident in S. Ozone
SOUTH OZONE PARK — An 18-year-old black man was approached at his place of employment July 10 about 9:30 p.m. by a group of white males, who proceeded to scream racial epithets at him, police said.
Police said it was being investigated as a bias incident. There were no arrests.
Fighter jets called to aid LaGuardia-bound airplane
LAGUARDIA — An American Trans Air Flight from Chicago was escorted into LaGuardia Airport by military jets Tuesday after a passenger told a flight attendant that there were people acting suspicious, reported the Associated Press.
The flight attendants told the pilots around 10:45 p.m., about 15 minutes before the plan was to land, that a passenger said a group of seven other passengers were passing notes to each other and changing seats, the AP said.
The pilots then alerted aviation authorities, who called in two F-16 fighter jets to escort the plane. The plane was five minutes late and none of the 98 passengers and crew were injured.
The seven passengers, said the AP, were a well-known Indian performance group and might have been rehearsing or discussing a performance.
Elmhurst man arrested on weapons, assault charges
Elmhurst — Robert Young, 53, of 26-42 94th St was arrested and charged with assault and possession of a weapon after stabbing an unidentified victim in the chest, police said.
The incident, police said, occurred at 21st Street and 43rd Avenue in Elmhurst Monday at 10:35 p.m. after the two men were involved in a traffic dispute.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital and was in stable condition, police said.
Unidentified victim shot in legs after argument at Woodside club
WOODSIDE — A person was shot once in each leg Monday in front of The Club Casino at 26-44 Borough Place after getting into an argument with two men, police said.
Police said one of the men shot the victim in each leg and then both men fled the scene on foot. The victim was taken to Wycoff Hospital and is in stable condition, police said.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
Police arrest 3 in Elmhurst on cocaine-related charges
ELMHURST — Three Colombian nationals were arrested on charges of trafficking and possession of cocaine by the New York Drug Enforcement Task Force, police said.
Police said they seized 239 kilos of cocaine on July 10 at 1 p.m.
Arrested were John Freddy Valentia, 33, of 70-02 45th Ave.; Jaime Carlos Gallo, 45, of 94-10 60th Ave.; and Javier Mafla, 30.
Two arrested after shotgun found in burned Hollis home
HOLLIS – A fire ravaged two floors of a two-family home in Hollis last week, fire officials said.
The blaze started in the basement of the house at 188-41 Mangin Ave. at about 10 a.m., said Deputy Fire Chief John McCormack. The fire was brought under control in about an hour, after firefighters battled stubborn flames in the walls, he said.
There were no injuries reported from the fire, and the cause did not seem to be suspicious, McCormack said.
Two men who lived in the basement of the house were questioned by police and taken away in handcuffs after a shotgun was found in the basement, police said.
It is unknown if the men were charged with any crimes.
Springfield Gdns. man arrested in connection with murder
JAMAICA – A Springfield Gardens man was shot last week, and was later arrested in connection with a homicide investigation in Philadelphia, police said.
Andrew Brown, 31, of 143-23 181st St. in Springfield Gardens was shot once during a dispute with two men at the corner of 165th Street and Jamaica Avenue. Brown was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition, police said.
Upon further investigation, police found that Brown was wanted in relation to a murder in Philadelphia, and he was placed under arrest, police said.
Police arrest Bronx man in connection with bank robbery
ROCKAWAY — Police arrested Vernon Snype of the Bronx in an apartment at 14-24 Gateway Blvd. last Thursday at 10:30 p.m. in connection with a July 6 bank robbery in Yonkers, police said.
Snype and another man allegedly robbed a First Union Bank and exchanged gunfire with police as they fled, authorities said. Snype’s partner was killed, police said.
Man arrested on rape charges in Rockaway
ROCKAWAY — A 28-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her ex-boyfriend about 1 a.m. Monday in the North Channel Bridge parking lot, police said.
Officers later arrested Shafeek Mohamed, 29, of 90-25 209th St. in connection with the incident, police said.
The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.
2 firefighters, 4 civilians hurt in Flushing apartment fire
FLUSHING — A fire that spread through a three-story building at 140-25 33rd Ave. injured two firefighters and four civilians, police said. The injured were taken to area hospitals.
Police said the fire started Saturday at 3 p.m. in a second-floor apartment before engulfing the rest of the building. Responding officers were able to rescue three children, ages 7 months, 5 and 8 years old, and one adult, police said.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
Flushing granny acquitted of knifing woman on bus
KEW GARDENS — A Flushing grandmother accused of cutting another grandmother on the bus was acquitted by a jury of all charges last week, the Queens district attorney said.
Cecilia Randazzo, 56, was accused of slashing Olga Munoz, 52, also of Flushing, with a box cutter in a fight over a seat on a Q25 bus on July 31, 2001, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Richard Brown said.
State Supreme Court Judge Richard Buchter presided over the case.
