Labor Day has arrived, but many people enjoyed quite a summer prior to it.
Knights of Columbus, St. Ambrose Council #1463 will be holding its second annual C & B Barbecue, Fri., Sept. 6, at the Council, 22-38 College Point Blvd. starting at 5:30 PM. Admission: Purchase one (1) C & B book per adult ($10 each) or two books per family for $20. The Menu: hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, salads and soda. Beer, wine, etc. at the cash bar… Latin Night is also coming to St. Ambrose Council, Fri., Sept. 13, at 8 p.m.. Music by DJ Archie, dinner, dessert, beer, wine, soda & cash bar available. $35 per person for advance ticket sales or $45 at the door. Every ticket purchased is an entry for the door prize. The First Sport Club of College Point Inc. founded in 1927, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The club’s 75th anniversary is being marked with a dinner-dance on Sat., Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. The dinner-dance will be at the Castle Harbour Casino, 1118 Havermeyer Ave., Bronx, NY 10462. Dinner will consist of cocktail hour 7 -8 p.m. Family-style dinner at 8 p.m., salad, loin of pork, chicken cutlets, sauerbraten and dumplings, red cabbage, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, bread and rolls with butter, coffee and cake. Pitchers of beer, soda and wine.

A celebration and a day to remember. The dedication of the 9/11 St. Francis Memorial Sat., Sept. 7. Bishop Thomas Daily will lead us in the 5 p.m. mass and in the dedication ceremonies at Holy Trinity.
At the First Reformed Church Sept. 18 is the Fall Lunch and Sale. Sale is 11-3 p.m. Lunch is 11:30-1:30 p.m., tickets are $6, which includes soup, salad, sandwich and dessert.
Celebrate America’s Freedoms on the Flushing Freedom Mile. A day of remembrance Sept. 11, 2002 at Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY. All activities are free and open to the public. Co-Sponsored by City Councilman John Liu and Community Board 7. At 8 a.m. Continental Breakfast, 9 a.m. Concert for Freedom.
The American Concert Band, Dr. Kirby Jolly, director will present a performance of traditional American music on the balcony in the garden, adjacent to the landmark Flushing Town Hall (1862). The concert moves indoors in case of rain.
Town Hall was built as a testament to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. At 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. there will be escorted tours along Flushing’s Freedom Mile with stops at Kingsland House (1785) Bowne House (1661) and Friends Meeting House (1694). Each site will be open and tours will be offered. Donations accepted.

There are eight different themes that you can choose from: Dance Party, Sports Party, Beach Party, MVP Music Video Party, Pajama Party, Classic Party, Grease Party, Ytrap Yadhtrib Sdawkcab: a backwards birthday party. My grandson picked the Sports Party and they all had a ball. Julie Ann ran a great party.
