The newly created Laurelton Local Development Corp. is ready to get to work stimulating the economic development in the area at its new office at the Social Concern Building on Merrick Boulevard.
The group is celebrating the grand opening of the office Tuesday at 226-18 Merrick Blvd. in Laurelton.
“The opening of this office demonstrates our resolve to improve and strengthen the Merrick Boulevard commercial strip, which serves the Laurelton community,” said H. Sidney Holmes, chairman of the LDC.
“The Laurelton Local Development Corp. is working to make Merrick Boulevard a vibrant, exciting, safe, urban boulevard with a diverse mixture of profitable business establishments and neighborhood service providers, characterized by clean and inviting street treatment that encourages pedestrian activity,” he said.
Aside from providing general assistance to local small-business owners, the LDC plans to sponsor the establishment of a business improvement district along Merrick Boulevard, the group said. The BID, an official city designation, would allow the businesses to cooperate to collect funds that would pay for sanitation and aesthetic services.
The grand opening of the office was scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday.
