Nine-year-old piano and violin virtuoso Aaron Yi Huang was to be honored with a proclamation Wednesday by Councilman David Weprin (D-Hollis) and the City Council.
Aaron, who lives in Bellerose and is a fourth-grade student in District 26’s gifted and talented magnet program at PS 18, has been playing the piano since age 4 and violin since 4 1/2. He performed in public for the first time at age 5.
A year later, he won first place in the Classical Period Piano Competition at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. At age 7, Aaron became the youngest violinist to join the Little Neck Symphony.
He has since appeared with the ensemble in performances at the United Nations, Lincoln Center and the White House, and for Pope John Paul II and the King of Spain, often as soloist.
Before presenting the proclamation Wednesday, Councilman Weprin was to arrange for Aaron and his classmates to be taken on a guided tour of City Hall. Aaron was also scheduled to give a brief violin recital at 250 Broadway, where the councilman maintains his office.
