The Queens Historical Society, in cooperation with Alley Pond Environmental Center, will offer an historical walking tour in the Alley, the original settlement of Bayside, on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. The tour departs from APEC, located at 228-06 North
“On this discovery walk we will examine how Alley Pond was formed and visit Alley Creek, a tidal creek that allowed access to this early settlement,” said Aline Euler, APEC education director and tour leader. “We will visit the site of the house of the first inhabitant, Thomas Foster, who built his home on land given to him by a land grant. The village also contained a mill and Buhrman’s General store. We will trace the names and the lives of the people of the Alley and discuss what happened to this beautiful place in the 20th Century and why it happened.”
