Stamatiades went to a pitching coach during the summer to work on her control, and she brought the fruits of her labor to Cunningham Park Monday, allowing a pair of infield hits en route to a 3-1 win over Bryant in a battle for first place in Queens A.
The senior hurler, a four-year starter for the Owls, walked four in the first three innings but then settled down to strike out 10 as she carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning.
“She came up big today,” said Bryant coach Wally Hausdorf. “Other than Madison, this was her biggest test so far, and she stepped up to the challenge.”
