Major Division
Pier 25A 8, Party City 3. Led by the hitting prowess of Terrence Manfredonia, Pier 25A defeated Party City, 8-3. Tony Koulotouros had a Clemens-type game on the mound until he ran out of gas in the fourth inning. Michael Guzowski relieved Koulotouros and shut the lights out on the opposition. Anthony Romanelli smacked a double off the fence in left field late in the game and eventually scored in defeat.
Texas Division
Applebee’s of Fresh Meadows 11, Printing Express 3. Applebee’s defeated Printing Express behind the pitching trio of Anthony Zupnick, Eric Strauss and George Rowen. Zupnick picked up the win for his first of the season. Strauss led the offense by going 3-for-3.
Anthony Ippolito had three hits and two RBIs, Glen Barker had two doubles and four RBIs, and Danny Marmol had two doubles that led the big attack for Applebee’s.
Mike Karcinski had two hits for Printing Express. David Pereira pitched well, with four strikeouts in two innings, and Brian Conway played a fine defensive game at catcher for the Express.
Applebee’s 10, CJ Wolf Hounds 0. Zupnick picked up his second win of the season when he teamed up with relief pitcher Philip Vorsam to shutout the Wolf Hounds. Eric Strauss again went 3-for-3 to lead the offense. Rowen had two hits with a triple and five RBIs.
Nick Athanasopoulos had two hits and Ippolito had two hits and provided the muscle. For the Wolf Hounds, Rich Marchiscllo powered a long double, and catcher John McManus had a great day throwing out three base runners attempting to steal.
R. Klein, CPA 9, Internet Business Group 8. The skies cleared to allow this game to be played in its entirety. R Klein, CPA got the win by scoring a run in the bottom of the last inning to break the tie. Jordan Manoel received the game ball for getting on base three out of four times and batting in the game-winning run.
Sal Oppedisono added a base hit and great defense for R. Klein, CPA. Internet Business group was led by the hitting of Evan Siegel, who batted in the game-tying RBIs, and Dylan Laube, who made two great defensive plays to keep the score close.
Applebee’s 3, Pilling Real Estate 2. Applebee’s Ryan Pellagrino tripled, driving in the winning run in a well-played game at Crocheron Park. John Celentani also made two good plays in center field to preserve the win. For Pilling Real Estate, Brandon Dittmar hit a home run in the first inning, and Nick Flevaris had a stellar play on defense to keep the game close.
Applebee’s 8, Mittman’s Medics 7. Trevor Wilson and Jack Strnad led the defense for Applebee’s with great plays in center field and at third base to seal the win. For Mittman’s, Lauren Kelly made a great play in right field and Steven Sullivan had a key hit on offense to drive in a run.
Papazzio’s Restaurant 10, Pilling Real Estate 8. Andrew Vitti hit a home run, had a double and a triple and pitched three strong innings for Papazzio’s. In addition, John Borsch got on base all three times, and Zack Droblas pitched the final two innings and made two good fielding plays to help save the win.
For Pilling, Phillip Cicciarello got a triple and a walk, and Patrick Schule hit a home run and made a great play at shortstop to get an out and save a run.
Outback Steakhouse 5, Mardene Construction 1. For Outback, Nick Loccisano and Kevin Reilly combined to strike out 15 batters in a five-inning contest. Loccisano also went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Frank Arigo went 2-for-4 with five RBIs, and Jason Andrle had one hit with two RBIs.
Monahan & Fitzgerald 10, Outback Steakhouse 7. Monahan & Fitzgerald was led by Jordan Heuer, who went 3-for-3 along with John Martinez, who played great defense with two key putouts in the victory.
Pitcher Mitchell Cheung registered seven K’s for the win for Monahan. Outback Steakhouse got three strong innings on the mound from pitcher Kevin Reilly, and Frank Arigo closed the game without giving up a run.
Monahan & Fitzgerald 15, Mardene Construction 10. Alex Pecora played an excellent center field with two putouts to lead Monahan. Nicholas Coffey added to the defense effort with a great throw from left field to catcher Eian Weiner (who caught three great innings) to preserve the 15-10 win.
For Mardene, Joe Black caught three great innings and had two hits with three RBIs. In addition, Tyler Parise had two putouts at second base and Jackie Weeds smashed two hits and had two RBIs.
V.I. Pizza 20, Mardene Construction 8. The V.I. Pizza attack was led by Steven Toumanidis, who had three hits including a home run and four RBIs; Matthew Sagianis, who had two hits and drove in five runs; Sean Feehan, who had two hits and scored three times; and Connor Boehme, who drove in his first run of the year.
The pitching was led by Feehan and Nicholas Ziangas, who combined to throw four strong innings. Mardene was led by Parise, who had a big three-run double; Mark Mardene, who boomed a triple and drove in a run; and Fallon McCarthy, who threw one strong inning and scored a run.
V.I. Pizza 6, Monahan & Fitzgerald 3. V.I. Pizza was led by Danny Finn, who went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, and by Steven Toumanidis, who drove in two runs with a huge triple. The biggest at bat of the game belonged to Michael Mueller, who led off the sixth with his first hit of the year.
Andrew Bodnar combined to hold Monahan to just three runs while striking out 13 batters. Monahan was led by Cheung, who threw three outstanding innings, striking out six batters. Cheung and catcher William Holden were part of a sensational play on defense, nailing a V.I. Pizza runner trying to stretch a triple into a home run in the sixth inning. The offense was led by Justin Beiner, who had a two-run triple.
A & A Plumbing 18, Hatton Funeral Home 12. Morrell Gaskins crushed a home run and a double with five RBIs for the day to lead A & A. Jon-Michael Lordi pitched two excellent innings with three strikeouts for the win. Eric Schwartz also showed great speed to score the winning run in A & A’s victory.
For Hatton’s Funeral Home, Dillon Depinto pitched three strong innings with five strikeouts. Bennett O’Donald also had five RBIs with a triple and a double in the loss.
A & A Plumbing 8, York Electric 8. This was a hard-fought battle between two tough teams that ended fittingly in an 8-8 tie. A & A jumped out in front with three runs on a triple by Dougie McGrath. But Morrell Gaskins hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning, tying the game. Anthony Palermo pitched in relief and had six strikeouts and no hits in two innings, on only 23 pitches.
For York, Steven Dimaio blasted an incredible three-run home run. Greg Insana displayed his excellent ability in the field and at the plate. Esteban Dilones pitched in relief with an amazing five strikeouts.
Internet Business Group 8, Papazzio’s Restaurant 5. The Internet Business Group team was led by the bats of leftfielder Tony Kentrotas and pitcher Evan Siegel. Both had big hits for their team. Catcher Walt Bonne’ made a couple of great defensive putouts at the plate to back his pitchers Michael Nittolo and Siegel.
Papazzio’s Restaurant was led by pitcher Andrew Cosgrove, who threw three strong innings. Their offense got a big boost from Brendan Kowpack, who hit a long home run in the third inning, allowing Papazzio’s to scored all five of their runs in that frame.
R. Klein, CPA 15, Gemini Tanning 5. R. Klein, CPA went on a hitting tear, getting 14 hits in five innings. The game ball for R. Klein, CPA went to George Kotaridi, who was on base all three times with a double and 3 RBIs.
Christina Cruz and Alex Lamburini combined to pitch five solid innings with a total of 13 strikeouts in the win. Gemini Tanning was led by Nicholas Griffin, who got on base twice and had 2 RBIs, and some great defensive plays by John Gallo.
PeeWee Division
Johnson Financial vs. Pearl Street Diner. Johnson Financial opened a two-game homestand following the terrific Bayside Little League Parade up Bell Boulevard.
The first game was an inspired contest with Pearl Street Diner. These two teams are two of the most developed of our terrific PeeWee program. Christian Barrett earned game ball honors for Johnson Financial with a home run and three plays at the plate with the bases loaded.
Pearl Street’s game ball went to Emmanuel Coulianides for his gold glove fielding and all-around fine play.
Johnson Financial vs. Major Homes. Johnson Financial concluded its homestand with a barn burner that featured Peter Andrisani making two diving stops in the field and Nicholas Theochardis earning the game ball for his huge grand slam home run.
Major Homes saw every player banging out big hits. The two leaders of the hit parade were Daniel Larusso and Dennis Mitts.
Pearl Street Diner vs. American Legion Post 123. This hard-hitting contest saw Nicholas Pappas emerge with the game ball for Pearl Street for his two big blasts into the outfield. Every player on American Legion had two big hits on this totally successful afternoon.
Lloyds vs. Duce Construction. Baseballs were flying in this big-hitting PeeWee game. Steven Bellante took game ball honors for Lloyds for his fine all-around play, and teammate Joseph Donato also distinguished himself with two big hits. Duce Construction was led by Christian Cardenas’ Brooks Robinson-like brilliance at third base and the big grand slam off the bat of James Quinn.
Titan Development vs. Anna Maria’s Bagels. Every player on Anna Maria’s Bagels banged out two big hits for the power-hitting squad. Ari Kesastos played a great game in the field and at bat for Titan Development. Teammate Tyler Reilly had a strong bat and was outstanding in the field, making some Ozzie Smith-like plays on some hot line drives.
Minor Division
Bayside Milk Farm 7, Fader Law 6. Got Milk? Bayside Milk Farm’s team does. Bayside Milk Farm defeats Fader Law in a down-to-the-last-inning thriller game. Robert Strawn of Fader Law cleared the bases with a grand slam home run in the first inning.
It was Michael Pasini who gave hope to Bayside Milk Farm by hitting a fly ball to left field, resulting in a double and an RBI, scoring the first run for the team. Although Mike Canellis of Fader Law pitched an outstanding game, Bayside Milk Farm made a ferocious comeback in the third inning by tying the game with four runs.
In the fifth inning, Fader Law was hot on Bayside Milk Farm’s heels and tied the game, 6-6. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Bayside Milk Farm’s power hitter Paul Mueller hit a double, driving Benjamin Gould home with the winning run.
Biordi Construction 19, Fader Law 6. Tom Karcinski pitched a strong four innings as Biordi Construction won its third game in a row. The offense was led by Anthony Scianna, Tom Meyers and Derrick Casanas, and some fine plays by the defense helped keep a tough Fader Law team from having a big inning. The defense was led by Pete Kowpak and Devin Fereanti.
Biordi Construction 10, Window Wiz 0. Fereanti was in control as he shut down a solid Window Wiz team. Ferranti struck out 10 batters, leading the team to its fourth straight win.
The bats of Robert Schlinder, Kevin Cash and Dom Formato led the offense. The defense was led by some sparkling plays from the team of Anthony Scianna, Casanas and Karcinski, who combined for two double plays in the game.
Biordi Construction 13, Remax Mil. 10. Remax played a great game, but the hot Biordi Construction team won its fifth game in a row with a hard-fought victory.
Dominic Formato pitched a solid two innings and gave way to Karcinski, who pitched a strong three innings. The game was closed out by Ferranti. The bats were hot again as Kowpak rocked a long triple and Karcinski had a bases-loaded double to clear the bases. The defense had a great effort from Casanas, Mike Lucella, Mike Palamara and John Voss. Kevin Cash also was super behind the plate.
Meric Law 17, Fader Law 4. Catcher Christopher Jimenez had a big grand slam home run and Joe Jensen had a nice triple. Defensively for Meric, pitcher Steven Arroyo and catcher Jimmy O’Connor shut down a late Fader Law rally by completing back-to-back putouts at home plate.
For Fader Law, catcher Eric Marinconz had a fantastic day behind the plate. Second baseman Jeremy Shui had a hot glove, and he recorded a number of putouts.
