The Our Lady of the Snows intermediate boys’ baseball team faced off against St. Margaret’s twice this past week. Both teams started the week with identical 5-0 records, and they both ended the week with identical 6-1 records.
Snows won the first game behind the five-hit pitching of Frank Sadicario, who also struck out 13. Scoring runs for OLS were Jeremy Hausdorf, Jonathan Dupuy, Brian Kelleher and Anthony Civitano.
After five innings in the second game, the score was 2-0 due to the strong pitching of Ray Potestio and tight defense by Snows. Ray tired in the sixth inning, and St. Margaret’s capitalized by scoring five additional runs.
Our Lady of the Snows also played St. Thomas the Apostle and won, 19-0. Joey Caraballo got his first start of the year and didn’t disappoint. Joey threw four scoreless innings of no-hit ball while striking out six batters. Offensively Snows received contributions from the entire team.
Some highlights of the game were Brian Biscotti, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs; Frank Sadicario, who went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in; Jeremy Hausdorf, who had two hits; Potestio, who singled and drove in a run; Anthony Kelly, who scored three times and had an RBI; Leroy Herbert, who singled in two runs; and Alex Rydzewski, who had two hits with two RBIs and an excellent running catch in the outfield.
The third- and fourth-grade girls’ softball team continued its strong play, beating St. Joseph’s and St. Greg’s this week.
Against St. Joe’s, Shannon Vetack threw four scoreless innings before Kaitlin Smolen came on to close out the victory. Julia Hannigan had three hits, two of which were home runs, and Kaitlyn Biscotti also had a three-hit game.
Other contributions came from Ashley Tolento and Rita Romeo, wwith two hits each. Angela Chavez, Nimmi Thomas and Smolen all had a hit apiece. The defensive play of the game was turned in by Sara Correa, who made a backhanded catch of a line drive playing third base.
Against St. Greg’s, Smolen took the mound and was followed by Correa, who threw three scoreless innings in relief.
Tolento and Smolen each had three-hit games for Snows while Hannigan, Correa, Caliegh O’Rourke and Thomas all added two hits to the attack. Also helping the cause was Chavez and Biscotti, who each had singles.
