Nick Derba had a pretty good week. The all-star catcher for the Archbishop Molloy Stanners called two shutouts, a crucial 6-0 win over St. Francis Prep Friday and an 18-0 blowout of St. Edmund Prep, as the Stanners locked up first place in the Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan standings.

The backstop for the defending CHSAA city champs had a decent week at the plate as well, belting a home run with RBIs against the Terriers as well as a round-tripper and two more RBIs in a 4-1 win over Monsignor McClancy.

“I think he’s having a great season,” Molloy coach Jack Curran said. “He’s an outstanding individual.”

Derba is batting just around .400 with four home runs on the season and is also a star in the classroom, where he holds a 95 average. He will attend Manhattan College in the fall on a full academic scholarship.
