Texas Farm Division
On a beautiful Father’s Day, Kramer’s Service Station and Bayside Salumeria had what could be called the most exciting game of the year. It was simply a slugfest. Leading off the barrage of hits was Kramer’s Service Station, with doubles by Eric Bak and Matthew Hacker and triples by Matthew Kramer and Sebastian Dilones.
Bayside Salumeria battled back in its half of the inning with hits by the dynamic duo of Jacklyn and Ryan Tsang, a double by Ameer Kazmi and a triple by Anthony Albasini. Both teams were equally matched in power. The dads at the game were also treated to some great plays by Jimmy Neil and Joseph Rivera of Kramer’s Service Station, along with Robert Calaspro and Luis Cruz of Bayside Salumeria. The game ended with the players dedicating the parade of hits to their fathers.
Texas Division
R. Klein, CPA 4, VI Pizza 3. Two of the top teams in the Texas division squared off in this well-played game by two spirited teams. R. Klein, CPA squeaked by with the win, 4-3. Game balls were awarded for completing an undefeated season. Congratulations. VI Pizza was powered by the strong pitching of Nicholas Ziangas, who shut down the opponent for two innings. He also added two hits. Connor Boehme contributed with a well-stroked single for VI Pizza in the loss.
Gemini Tanning 11, Monahan & Fitzgerald 5. Gemini Tanning, with outstanding pitching from starter Jake Schade, reliever Nicolas Griffin and closer Kyle Bremmer, beat Monaghan & Fitzgerald, 11-5. Timely hitting from Antony Koyfman (3-for-3) also contributed to the win. Monahan’s Alex Pecora did a fine job of pitching himself, striking out five and the hot bat of Nicolas Coffey (3-for-3) and the guts of Justin Biener, who took one for the team, made this was one exciting and well played game from start to finish.
Gemini Tanning 12, Hatton's Funeral Home 11. Gemini Tanning survived a last-inning charge by Hatton’s Funeral Home and held on to win 12–11. The game came down to a 3-2 count with bases loaded when Nicolas Griffin struck out the last batter to seal the victory for Gemini. Gemini’s offensive charge was lead by Kevin Murray (two hits) and Jake Schade (three hits — one in the back, one in the elbow and one to right field). Hatton’s Alec Sullivan pitched a fine game that kept his team close and offensive help from Francesco DiRe almost pulled a victory out of the hat.
Pilling Real Estate 10, Hatton's Funeral Home 5. In an exciting game, Pilling Real Estate defeated Hatton's Funeral Home, 10-5. For Pilling, Andrew Schindler had a career day, driving in six runs with a double and two singles. Patrick Schule pitched three strong innings and Sean Rafferty came in to strike out the side. For Hatton's, Adam Strumpf reached base in all three at bats and Justin Newmark had a single and took two for the team to reach base in all his at bats.
V.I. Pizza 3, York Electric 0. In a well-played and incredibly pitched game by both teams, V.I. Pizza beat York Electric, 3-0. V.I. Pizza pitchers Steven Toumanidis and Danny Finn combined on a two-hit shutout while striking out 15 and walking only two. Michael Mueller provided the biggest hit of the game with a two-run double which was all that the pitchers needed to win this game. York Electric was led by Greg Insana, who made three tremendous plays at shortstop, including two double plays, and by Tommy O'Brien, who caught an excellent game behind the plate. This game was one of the best played games of the year by both teams.
Papazzio’s Restaurant 8, Gemini Tanning 6. Papazzio’s defeated Gemini Tanning in a close-fought battle. Mike Kowpack had a bases-clearing double to lead the charge. Bendan Cosgrove contributed a run-scoring single. Cosgrove and Zack Droblas combined to pitch Papazzio’s to the victory. For Gemini Tanning, Kevin Murray had a double to score a couple of runs and Emanuel Diaz had two hits. Kyle Bremer pitched three strong innings for Gemini Tanning.
Papazzio’s Restaurant 5, Outback Steakhouse 4. Palazzo’s scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning and held of a late surge by Outback for the victory. Papazzio’s was led by the pitching of Brendon Cosgrove, who pitched the first three innings, and Daniel Soares, who pitched the final three innings and recorded the win. Soares also had a bases-clearing triple and scored the winning run and Zachary Latos had a key at bat in the top of the sixth to keep the inning going. Outback was led by the brilliant pitching of Nick Loccisano, who recorded nine strikeouts in his three innings of work and also went 2-for-3. Anthony Kavalis helped out by going 2-for-4 and Jason Andrele was 1-for-3.
Outback Steakhouse 9, Pilling Real Estate 1. For Outback, Anthony Panepinto pitched the first three innings allowing no hits and striking out eight. Panepinto also had three hits with three RBIs. Kevin Reilly pitched the last three innings, allowing no runs and striking out eight. Anthony Kavalis continued his hot hitting by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Nick Flevaris and Sean Rafferty collected hits for Pilling Real Estate and Mike Levin was outstanding defensively in the losing effort.
PeeWee Division
Pearl Street Diner vs. Duce Construction. Duce Construction came out smoking in this hard-fought PeeWee contest. Every player on Duce banged out two big hits, and the entire team played well in the field. Gianni Panepinto won game ball honors for Pearl Street for his gold glove defensive play. Teammate Stephanie Stathopoulos led the hit parade for Pearl Street, as they matched Duce’s offensive barrage hit for hit.
Major Division
Pacific Lawn 14, Bell Bay Florist 4. James O’Brien was the hitting star for Pacific, with Dante Randazzo and Sebastian Poplowski providing solid defense. Steve Kinally had a strong game at third for Bell Bay.
Pacific Lawn 2, Club Care 2. In a first-round playoff game, Alex Robinson singled in Laz Wiggley with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to win the game for Pacific Lawn. Joey Schade pitched three super innings and hit his first home run of the season for the sprinklers. Jarrod Katz and Joe Vitti were the pitching stars for Club Care.
