Day of ‘armed’ combat slated at Rockaway Beach

The city Department of Parks and Recreation and the New York Arm Wrestling Association have joined forces to hold the 26th Annual White Castle “Queensboro” Arm Wrestling Championships to be held at Rockaway Beach on Sunday, Aug. 10, on the board

Weigh-in and registration begins at 11 a.m. and start time is 1 p.m. Free admission and entry will be provided for everyone thanks to the proud sponsor, White Castle Hamburgers.

Two-time Queensboro super heavyweight champion and Rockaway resident Sean Ringgold said, “I will take home the gold once again.” Ringgold is last year’s Queens MVP, Arm-Star Award winner (won with both hands) and winner of the New York Golden Arm Series, Empire State Finals.

Ringgold is known as the “Rockaway Flash” for his uncanny ability to beat all comers instantly. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound arm wrestling super star will once again be favored to smoke the competition with both hands at the Queensboro championships.

The Queens arm wrestling event also will feature up to 13 weight classes for both men and women. Spectators can watch the arm wrestlers flex their muscles, as beginners and amateurs compete for the White Castle Queensboro titles. An Open Pro right- and left-hand contest will be held for men only.

Customized arm wrestling awards will be given for first, second and third place in each weight class, and a Queensboro Arms of Steel male and female MVP will be crowned. Since there are no residency requirements, we expect more than 100 entries from the tri-state area. Award winners will qualify for the Nov. 13 Empire State Finals at the Port Authority bus terminal in Midtown Manhattan.

The New York Golden Arm Series consists of 10 preliminary championships and a final. These events are held each year at major festivals, fairs, racetracks, beaches and major tourist attractions in each of the five boroughs, Long Island and upstate New York.
