Jessica Chow Sr. P Forest Hills
Nicknamed “all-world” by Forest Hills coach Jonas Garelle, Chow lived up to the lofty billing by leading the Rangers to the PSAL ‘B’ softball title, the first in school history. Chow, who batted .558 with five homers and 22 RBIs while striking out 61 in 51 innings, will also be the first Forest Hills softball player to have her number retired.
Jackie Rodriguez Sr. C Bryant
A four-year starter, Rodriguez excelled in her third position in four years, helping lead the Owls to the PSAL semifinals for the second time in four years. Rodriguez, who batted .381 with two home runs and 11 RBIs, will head to St. Francis College in the fall, where she garnered a full academic scholarship and will play on the Division I softball team.
Carrie Seidel Sr. SS Cardozo
Just returning to the softball field was a feat in itself for Seidel, who missed all of 2002 because of major surgery on her shoulder and elbow. But that wasn’t enough for Seidel, who hit .500 with three home runs and 21 RBIs and had a .900 slugging percentage in 13 games for Cardozo.
Kim Hattan Sr. P Bayside
As if dealing with Edwards wasn’t hard enough, Bayside coach Steve Piorkowski would throw Hattan into the mix each game and the combination proved to be nearly unhittable. Alternating with Edwards as the starter each game, Hattan went 7-1 with a 2.03 earned run average and batted a gaudy .622.
Victoria Gardner Sr. 1B Francis Lewis
Francis Lewis didn’t repeat as PSAL champions, but it wasn’t because of Gardner, who repeats as TimesLedger PSAL All-Queens first team first baseman. An excellent defensive player, Gardner also batted .500 with five doubles, one triple, 19 RBIs and 18 runs scored in 38 at-bats.
Ally Falco Sr. 2B Bayside
The two-sport star at Bayside — Falco was also a standout on the Commodores basketball team that lost in the PSAL ‘B’ semifinals — she hit .550 with two home runs, 19 RBIs, 16 runs scored and an .825 slugging percentage. Falco was also an excellent defensive player, helping shore up the middle of Bayside’s infield.
Allison Stupakevich Sr. 2B Bryant
Like Rodriguez and Ally Stamatiades, Stupakevich was another versatile four-year starter for Wally Hausdorf at Bryant. Stupakevich, who will most likely attend Queens College in the fall, batted .391 with three doubles and 15 RBIs. “She played a phenomenal second base,” Hausdorf said. “She’s a very good athlete.”
Catherine Alves So. SS Francis Lewis
The lone underclassman on the first team, Alves, along with twin sister Stephanine Alves, will undoubtably be one of the top players in the next two years. Catherine Alves batted .405 and stole a remarkable 21 bases for the Patriots.
