Queens Parent Resource Center will hold its Fourth Annual Day at the Races fund-raising event on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Belmont Park Garden Terrace. For more information call Coretta Tracey-Palmer at 718-523-6353, Ext. 217.
Queens Parent Resource Center was established in 1992 by a group of parents of sons and daughters with mental retardation and developmental disabilities, under the leadership of Ana Magalee, founder and executive director. These parents passionately believed that people with developmental disabilities were capable of living at home and, in some cases, participating in normal social activities, forming relationships, maintaining employment and becoming productive members of the community.
QPRC currently serves more than 700 disabled individuals and their families through Medicaid waiver case management, residential, in-home respite and residential habilitation services. The staff offers additional family support services by providing family reimbursement, in-home planned respite, adult socialization, outreach and after-school respite that are contracted with the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. They also offer an after-school respite program that is contracted through New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
Queens Parent Resource Center is located at 88-50 165th St., Jamaica. For more information, call 718-523-6953.
