Minor Division
ReAction Auto 5, Mass Electric 3. Dwarf Giraffe’s minor division leader, Mass Electric, lost to ReAction Auto, 5-3. In the first period Anthony Lenis scored a goal with an assist by Anthony Castagliola. In the third period Vincent Pagano scored a goal assisted by Mathew Lenis to tie the game.
ReAction Auto broke through Mass Electric’s usual impenetrable defense of Jared Labades, Christian Lenis, Dylan Chataeu, Joseph Addamo, Christina Krupp and Quan Ngo to win the game. Mass Electric’s goalie, Emily Becker, was taken out of the game with four minutes left on the clock to give them a six-man advantage, but unfortunately for Mass Electric the well-intended strategy did not pay off.
Mass Electric 9, Erin’s Isle 2. Mass Electric’s first game of the playoffs ended with a 9-2 win over Erin’s Isle, eliminating Erin’s Isle from the competition. Anthony Lenis ignited the team by scoring the first two back-to-back goals and ended up with a hat trick for the night.
Steven Rufo scored a goal assisted by Jordan Chataeu, who also scored a goal with an assist by Ngo. Labades added a goal late in the second quarter with an assist by Philip Zucchia. In the third quarter Pagano contributed to the game by adding two goals assisted by Addamo and Krupp. Mass Electric’s Becker only gave up two goals and made some spectacular saves.
Mass Electric 9, ReAction Auto 4. Mass Electric dominated the first game of the championship series with a 9-4 victory over ReAction Auto. Rufo scored the lead-off goal with an assist from Labades. Anthony Lenis pulled a hat trick assisted by Addamo, Jordan Chataeu and Christian Lenis. Pagano also had a hat trick, with assists from Dylan Chataeu, Krupp and Ngo. Becker had more than 16 saves for the game.
ReAction Auto 6, Mass Electric 4. Mass Electric lost the second game of the championship series to ReAction Auto, 6-4. The two teams are tied at one game apiece, and the next game will decide who takes home the first-place trophy and carries the DG Cup. Pagano had his second hat trick of the series, with assists from Krupp and Jordan Chataeu. Rufo also added a goal assisted by Anthony Lenis.
Major Division
Venezia Tile 11, Charmer Industries 5. Venezia Tile eliminated Charmer Industries two games to none to move into the finals of the DG Roller Hockey playoffs. Venezia’s offense exploded in the first period when Pat Schule and Tom Brady scored the first two goals of the game just 16 seconds apart.
Schule added four more goals before the final buzzer. Christian Kenny sparked the hot line of Schule, Brady and Kenny. He scored a goal and assisted on two of Schule’s goals. The line of Tommy Monte, Travis Lippert and Nicky Veljacich also was in playoff form. Their pinpoint passing attack earned them three points each: Lippert had two goals and an assist, and Monte and Veljacich each had a goal and two assists.
Venezia defensemen Tam Ngo, Brian Herschaft, Kevin Huynh and Dennis Reshetney did a marvelous job of keeping the puck in at the points, allowing their forwards to build a 9-1 lead. Venezia goalie Jason Becker played his second consecutive outstanding game of the playoffs.
Senior Division
Mattone Group 7, Transcreen 5. Transcreen started the scoring with a goal off the stick of Charlie Conzslex assisted by Pat Brennan. Tommy Werthmuller and Jimmy Brady scored a goal each in the first period. Nick DiMasi, Matt Lupoli and William Siminetti provided the offense for Pizza Chef in the first period, tying the score at 3-3 after one period.
In the second period Paul Giamtiempo scored first for Pizza chef. Transcreen answered with a goal by Michael Rostici to knot the game at 4-4. Pizza Chef’s Giamtiempo and Binanti put their team ahead for good, 6-4. Brady of Transcreen and DiMasi traded goals to end the game.
Transcreen 4, Pizza Chef 1. Transcreen moves on to the next round of the DG playoffs after defeating Pizza Chef, 4-1. Transcreen scored two goals in the first period off the sticks of Brady and Tommy Cheeseman. Pizza Chef’s Dujovic made the score 2-1 in the second period, but Transcreen’s Werthmuller and Robert Schule put the game away in the third period.
