Three days after scoring a career-high 52 points, four points shy of Kenny Anderson’s all-time single-game scoring record, in a romp over McClancy, Gaines continued his hot shooting against rival St. Raymond’s Friday night.
The Georgia-bound guard had 31 points, including 23 in the first half, in a 69-63 win over the Ravens. Gaines, who leads the CHSAA AA in scoring, averaging 26.3 points per game, also had eight rebounds and seven assists as the Stanners avenged a 70-69 loss to St. Ray’s Jan. 6.
With Bryan Geffen struggling, St. Francis Prep senior Tim Dougherty had 16 points and six rebounds to help lead the Terriers over McClancy, 77-55, Sunday. Fellow senior Andrew Cashin, who is being courted by Queens College, had a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds … Brian Beckford had 20 points and 11 rebounds for red-hot Christ the King in a 64-54 win over St. Augustine (N.J.) in the Prime Time Shootout at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton Sunday … Jessica Fuller recorded her third triple-double of the year, scoring 16 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking 12 shots for the Francis Lewis girls’ basketball team in a 57-47 win over Cardozo in the Queens Borough championship game last Thursday at Elmcor … Rosalyn Gold-Onwude scored 22 points with 12 rebounds and five assists in leading Molloy over St. Francis Prep Saturday. She also scored 24 in a non-league win over Staten Island’s Notre Dame … Skyler Khaleel had a game-high 28 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and had five blocks and two steals for the Cardozo boys’ basketball team in a 70-52 win over rival Bayside in the Queens Borough championship game … Mary Louis long jumper Valin Jordan set a meet record with a leap of 17 feet, 8 1/2 inches in a CHSAA sectional track meet at the Armory Saturday. Valerie Maugnian won the 55-meter hurdles (8.8 seconds) to lead Molloy to the Brooklyn/Queens title.
