Marble Mode wins big, 16-8, over PeeWee Folks Pre School

Dwarf Giraffe Novice A Division

For the second straight week, Marble Mode contracting received excellent all-around play in a 16-8 win against Pee Wee Folks Pre School. Once again, Andrew Grothman and Kalyn Faler led the way offensively. Defensively, Amarice Carreas, Melissa Kanter, Kevin Larrea and Bree Bradley controlled play for Marble contracting. Tom Kizner, Anthony Cantatore, Joseph Leone and Matt Kanter each contributed off the bench for Marble’s fifth victory of the season.

Dwarf Giraffe Bantam Division

Napa & Sonoma Steakhouse beat Pizza Chef in one of the most exciting games of the year by a score of 41-38. In the final minute of the game both teams put out an exciting effort that had the fans clapping and screaming for their kids.

Led by Blake Brown’s 28 points, Napa & Sonoma put the game away with six seconds left on the clock on a clutch basket by Stephen Mirtspoulos. Great defensive play by Brian McGann, Chris Yhun and Raffay Kaleem in the final minutes kept them in the game. Brandon Capponi also contributed by scoring six important points.

Dwarf Giraffe Senior Division

As usual, Sunday evening sported our three Senior Division games. In the first game, Cascarino’s Pizzeria lost to a spirited Whitestone Car Wash team, 66-58. This was a tightly fought, highly contested battle. Both teams received technicals and foul shots were frequent throughout the contest.

Carlo Coumoutsis scored 25, while Mike Alban and Teddy Rojas also had strong games for the victors. Joey Mare and Max Malakh fouled out for the Cascarino’s team, weakening it considerably. Both of these teams are tied for second place with 5-4 records.

In the next game, DePhillip’s Sporting Goods easily defeated Clintonville Restaurant, 84-56. Clintonville was undermanned, missing two of its offensive threats in Jonathan Finkelman and Joe Montgomery. Andreas Kurumusis had a game-high 25 points for this team. Ralph Glavan led the DePhillip’s team with 22 points, while Mena Yacoub, Matt Santeufemia, Ed Johnston and Scott Leo poured in 17, 17, 12 and 12, respectively. The DePhillip’s team holds sole possession of first place with a 6-3 record.

The final game saw Gleason’s Funeral Home, a team on a roll, defeat the Berardi’s Bakery squad, 77-59. Nick Pisacano, becoming one of the league’s MVPs, poured in 34 with an assortment of three-pointers, short jumpers and lay-ups. Joe Ligotti not only added 18 points but was a force off the defensive and offensive boards.

Ray Torres led the Berardi’s team, while Steve Koullias, Joey Graham and Tommy Franceschini also had strong games. The Gleason’s team, after winning its last two games, are tied for third with Clintonville Restaurant with a 4-5 record.

These Senior Division games on Sunday evening are very entertaining. All are welcome to our local gym to see these games between 6:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
