Astoria’s Stephen Roger Kitts II returns to Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, March 28, at 5:30 p.m., to perform a compilation of works entitled “Lion in Spring.”
The production is a lighthearted account of an aspiring singer’s journey from the Midwest to the to the New York City stage. Weaving through monologues and music, the autobiography consists of arias such as “Recondita armonia” from Puccini’s “Tosca,” to musical theater pieces like “I’m the Greatest Star’ and “A New Life” from “Jekyll and Hyde.”
Kitts is a versatile entertainer, with credits in theater, cabaret and classical music. Appearing across the country, Kitts has performed in regional theatres, the California Music Festival, and as a Young Artist with DiCapo Opera Theatre in New York City. Kitts’s original works include cabarets — “Drinking Again” and “The Cabaret Handbook” — as well as a trilogy of one-act plays, “Shades of Male.”
Howard Levitsky, musical director, is currently a standby keyboardist for Broadway’s “Chicago” and “Beauty and the Beast.” The children’s musical “Up a Tree,” for which he wrote the music, recently won an award from the American Alliance for Theater and Education.
Founded in 2002, Golden Door Productions, Inc. was specifically created to produce new theatrical and other works while helping emerging artists find their voices.
