First Team
Katie Driscoll Sr. G Townsend Harris
Opposing coaches say she can only go left with her dribble, but it doesn’t mean they could stop her from scoring. The Hawks senior point guard greatly improved from last year, averaging 21.1 points (13th in the city), 7.4 assists (ninth in the city) and 2.8 rebounds per game and was a major reason Townsend Harris advanced to the PSAL second round, where it fell to Midwood.
Jasmin Lawrence Sr. G Francis Lewis
On the biggest stage, under the brighest lights, Lawrence played her best game for Francis Lewis. One of just two seniors on the Patriots, Lawrence had 15 points in her final high school game and kept Francis Lewis close to mighty Bergtraum for a half. The James Madison-bound guard averaged 11.2 points, 3.8 assists and two rebounds per game and is a three-time All-Queens first team selection.
Leah Lipschitz Sr. F. Cardozo
Similar to Lawrence in the sense she can do just about everything on the court, Lipschitz was a player Cardozo coach Larry Carradine could always depend on. After a breakout junior year, the 5-foot-8 forward was solid, averaging 15 points and nine rebounds per game for Cardozo, which fell to Bergtraum in the quarterfinals of the PSAL playoffs.
Jessica Fuller Jr. F. Francis Lewis
The most imposing frontcourt player in the borough, Fuller has drawn interest from a bevy of big-time Division I colleges — and for good reason. The 6-foot-3 forward averaged 9.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and had several triple-doubles during the season. If Francis Lewis returns to Madison Square Garden next year to take on Bergtraum again, Fuller will be a major reason why.
Delise Johnson Sr. C. Van Buren
Johnson followed a breakthrough summer, when she played with Virginia Tech-bound Christie Marrone from St. John Villa, with a stellar senior season. While she averaged 14.8 points, a city-best 23.6 rebounds per game and dominated in the paint, Johnson also was a spectacular passer for a 6-foot-2 center and led the VeeBees to the PSAL Class B title game. She will play at Drexel University next year.
Marissa Flagg So. G. Cardozo
The younger sister of Cardozo boys’ basketball standout Nick Flagg, Marissa Flagg burst onto the PSAL scene last year and captured the TimesLedger Player of the Year award. Despite the extra attention by opposing defenses, the Judges’ point guard still averaged 8.8 points and 5.8 assists per game and improved on that in the postseason, averaging 12.8 and 6.3 assists per game.
Dawn Coleman Jr. G. Francis Lewis
On a mega-talented team with several potential Division I athletes, some say Coleman was the team’s most valuable player. She averaged 14.6 points — 15.3 points per game during the playoffs — and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Patriots. Coleman also sunk a pair of clutch free throws in the waning moments of the PSAL Class A semifinals to send Francis Lewis to the title tilt.
Britni Bolden Sr. F. Cardozo
With the size of a guard and being terribly undersized in almost every game, Bolden battled ferociously in the lane and the 5-foot-8 senior averaged 12.3 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. Bolden is a three-time TimesLedger All-Queens selection.
Alaina Davis Sr. F. Francis Lewis
As if dealing with Fuller weren’t tough enough, Davis was another terror inside for Francis Lewis. Like those of many of her teammates, Davis’ stat line (8.3 points, 6.9 rebounds per game) only tells part of the story. The 5-foot-11 forward, part of one of the largest frontcourts in the city, was rugged and tenacious in the paint and a big reason why Francis Lewis returned to the PSAL title game after a one-year hiatus.
Nicole Michael Jr. F. August Martin
The 6-foot-1 forward did just about everything for August Martin, averaging 17.4 points and 13.9 rebounds per game. While able to dominate in the paint, Michael also could score on the perimeter and put the ball on the floor in the open court and should be one of the most sought-after forwards in Queens next year.
