The city Department of Transportation closed Bayside’s municipal parking lot Monday to lay a topcoat on the asphalt, an agency spokesman said.

The lot, which has about 90 spaces at 214th Place and 41st Avenue, closed Monday and was slated to reopen Wednesday, said DOT spokesman Keith Kalb.

The lot was closed for several weeks last fall so that the city could conduct drainage work on the lot, which had a ponding problem. Its closure prompted an angry response from business owners over the loss of parking so close to the holiday shopping season.

Kalb said the DOT left a temporary topcoat on the lot last winter and waited until this week’s nice weather to put in the permanent surface, final paintings and markings.
