Years of playing the lottery culminated with a $5 million ticket for a Flushing mother and daughter who won the New York Lottery “Set for Life” game earlier this month.
Vilma Grace Gutierrez, a 48-year-old hair salon owner, went to Hyun Zee Farm on Union Turnpike to buy an “All the Marbles” ticket, a game that featured a $250,000 grand prize.
“The store was out,” she said in a statement issued by the New York Lottery. “I tried the ‘Set for Life’ ticket instead. Talk about winning all the marbles.”
She plans to split the $5 million winnings with her 67-year-old mother, also named Vilma, according to a New York Lottery spokeswoman.
Both women, who work at the hair salon owned by the daughter, plan to retire.
The New York Lottery plans to issue them checks in quarterly payments annually. The Flushing women are the second winners of the “Set for Life” game and the 202nd millionaire winners of the New York Lottery from Queens.
The winning duo declined to comment further on their new fortune.
