KEW GARDENS — A former Jamaica man who pleaded guilty to raping a 16-year-old girl in her Maspeth home seven years ago was sentenced Friday to 22 years in prison, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Vincent Elias, 33, formerly of 88-15 179th St., was given the sentence by Judge Barry Kron in State Supreme Court in Kew Gardens as part of a plea agreement, Brown said.
The 22-year sentence for raping the girl at knifepoint in her basement was added to the 15-year jail term Elias was already serving for raping two 18-year-old women in Jamaica and Flushing in 1999.
Elias was linked to the 1997 Maspeth attack when he was required to provide a DNA sample as part of the investigation last year. The DNA matched evidence found on the girl, Brown said.
BAYSIDE — A Bayside High School student was punched in the head and hospitalized last week after an argument in the locker room escalated, police said.
Richard Brown, 17, also a student at the school, was charged with assault after the March 24 incident, said Sgt. Liam Burns of the 111th Precinct.
Brown was arrested last Thursday, the day after he allegedly punched another male student in the back of the head in the school cafeteria during an argument over orange juice in the locker room, Burns said.
The 18-year-old victim, identified in a complaint by Queens District Attorney Richard Brown as John Cerna, was knocked unconscious when he hit the ground and was sent to New York Hospital Queens, Burns said.
He suffered some internal bleeding but was released from the hospital a day or two later, Burns said.
Department of Education spokesman Paul Rose said the argument involved three students, but that the other perpetrator ran away.
He said nothing was found in a CAT scan of the victim, whom he said was semiconscious after the incident.
The school was set to suspend the two perpetrators “pending the outcome of the police case,” said Rose.
CITY HALL — Mayor Michael Bloomberg told Jewish leaders Monday that police would provide extra protection for their communities throughout the city during Passover.
Heavily armed anti-terror Hercules units will be deployed at synagogues, while plainclothes officers will patrol the streets and subway stations.
Passover begins Monday at sundown.
Bloomberg urged the public to call 911 or 311 to report any suspicious activity.
GLEN OAKS — Two unconscious men were found in a basement apartment in Glen Oaks Saturday, police said.
One man, 26, was already dead when officers from the 105th Precinct arrived, but a second man, 24, was taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park in critical condition, police said.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
FLUSHING — A police custodian for the 107th Precinct was arrested on charges of drunk driving Sunday, police said. Pedro Andino, the custodian, was suspended, police said.
LaGUARDIA AIRPORT — The New York Post reported Monday that an emotionally disturbed man was arrested after scaling a fence at LaGuardia Airport Sunday.
The 21-year-old man, who was not identified, was treated at a local hospital before he was charged with criminal trespassing, among other offenses.
CAMBRIA HEIGHTS — A 33-year-old man was shot once in the leg Saturday in Cambria Heights and taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition, police said.
Two women were arrested in connection with the shooting, and one of them, Jolen Pagan, 20, shares the same address on 222nd Street as the victim.
Both she and the other woman, Delores Pagan, 40, of 115-12 133 Ave. were charged with assault, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Devon was arrested on charges of assaulting one of the women Friday, police said. Police are looking for a third, male suspect.
JAMAICA — A 26-year-old woman was shot once in the hand Wednesday near the intersection of 174th Street and 110th Avenue in Jamaica, police said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition, police said.
No arrests have been made and police are continuing the investigation.
FAR ROCKAWAY — Three residents of Far Rockaway have been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after police seized $1.6 million worth of cocaine in their home, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Tuesday.
Ramon Reynoso, 34; Leida Del Carmen Rodriguez, 35; and Edwin Rosario, 19 of 2210 Brookhaven Ave. all face up to 25 years in prison if convicted, Brown said.
The defendants were arraigned Friday in state Supreme Court in Kew Gardens, with Reynoso and Rodriguez due back in court April 12 and Rosario due back April 22, Brown said.
Rodriguez is being held on $300,000 bail, while bail was not set for the others, Brown said.
Police recovered nine kilograms of cocaine packed in bricks and more than two kilograms in three bags, as well as a scale, Brown said.
