On Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Queensborough Community College Performing Arts Center, the Queensborough Orchestra will present Baroque and Beyond — a program of classical favorites from the Baroque through Contemporary periods.
The performance will feature the celebrated children’s ensemble The Tarumi Violinists, with special guest artist 13-year-old virtuoso violinist Jeremy Cushman.
The program will include the J.S. Bach “Air” from Suite No. 3 in D, Vivaldi’s “Concerto Grosso,” Op. 3 No. 8, selected Hungarian Dances of Brahms, an arrangement of Carl Bohm’s “Perpetual Motion” and works by Leroy Anderson and John Philip Sousa.
The Tarumi Violinists will participate in orchestral selections. Cushman will perform the solo third movement from the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto.
The Tarumi Violinists were founded in 1986. The children, ranging in age from 6 through 16, are led by virtuoso violinist Yukako Tarumi. They have performed in distinguished places of culture both here and abroad, including the White House, Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. At the tender age of 13, Cushman is a veteran of solo orchestral performances. A student of Yukako Tarumi since age 5, Cushman has enjoyed numerous public appearances with area orchestras, won talent competitions and earned corporate recognition awards.
